    MAIN EVENT!

    Round 1

Escalante throws some nice jab and uppercut combos in the first minute. Perez then answers right back with his own uppercut and catches Escalante rushing in and knocks him back on his butt!!! It's ruled a slip!!! :patsch Moments later Escalante floors Perez, and THAT is ruled a slip!!! WTF REF?? Both hit the deck because of punches as much as momentum/balance IMO. Escalante starts trying to box on the outside, dodging a lot of the jabs and hooks of Perez. Escalante not landing much, though. Perez is very busy, a buzzsaw...almost Pacquiao-like...except he takes long breaks. BIG OVERHAND RIGHT TO THE KISSER DROPS ESCALANTE HARD AT THE VERY END OF THE ROUND!!!!! FALLING BACKWARD!!! LANDS VERY HARD ON HIS BACK, HEAD BOUNCING!!!

    KTFO!!!!!

Escalante shot straight up into a sitting position (Undertaker-style, for those who followed wrasslin' in the 90's ) and tried to act like he was perfectly fine, but the ref wasn't fooled. He told Escalante "No, son. You got KTFO"

Escalante was Ko'ed by Pastrana that abouts says it all about his chin.

    Perez is ecstatic.

He is giving a very exuberant interview in the ring, and while I don't speak Spanish his tone doesn't sound the least bit cocky. He just seems celebratory and so very, very happy. He is high on adrenaline. The interviewer has him talk the audience through a replay of the KO and you can hear the excitement in his voice just reliving the fresh moment. The name Freddie Roach is thrown around a little by both - maybe he's a part-time disciple of the Wild Card? :think That would explain why I saw some similarity to Pacquiao in his style.

Oh yeah, he's definitely a Wild Card kid. You don't need to speak Spanish to know an end-of-interview shout-out when you hear one. :yep

Good for him. Young kid, 25...career stalling a bit at 14-2 and gets a HUGE win like this, in front of a passionate crowd.

    Legitimate, IMO.

It was a hellish shot, and he went down HARD.

He did get up quickly, but it's one of those cases where that doesn't matter. The way he got hit and went down would be enough to convince 99% of refs to wave it off.

Morales-Pac I was just being shown on HBO.

They are replaying it again later on for those interested in watching it.

    One hell of a fight.

Anyway...a bit anti-climactic, but they are sweetening the pot with a walkout bout...

2-0 Manuel Avila vs. 2-8-2 Frank Gutierrez

    4 rounds.
