the chap fought bums on a BBC contract making a million pounds and conning the public. he made such a tool out of BBC that they are not in boxing any more. He caused a massive amount of damage to the sport. Then Haye came along and did further damage by fighting Audley and then admitting he bet on himself. the general public felt conned by the fight and it really exposed audley as a true fraud for all these years. the general public have a poorer perception of the sport due to audley, that will be his legacy
From that list I'd say the effect he had on the BBCs attitude to boxing. They naively spent on lot of money on a series of poor fight and probably feel they got burned on the deal. That said, I blame the muppets at the BBC rather than Harrision....
Maybe the beeb thought they had the next lennox, but I agree it has probably left them with a bitter taste for boxing!
What has he exactly done wrong? Got a Million Pound 10 fight deal for easy fights to start his career off. Got a deal IMO. Wouldnt you take it? Then just wasnt good enough to make it at the Top.
He didn't need to be good enough to make it to the top, because on that kind of money he'd already made it. Look at Euro level triers like Booth and Munroe, or Sprott for instance, all beaten far better opponents than Harrison ever did yet made nowhere near that kind of ££££.
I don't see how he was bad for it. He generated money in the sport. People had genuine interest in him.
What was Audley supposed to say, 'no I won't take this wonderfully stupid deal thats so favourable to me'...? Never understand why he gets the blame for that, the BBC gave it to him. What he should be criticized most for are his underwhelming performances from start to finish.
If he had actually lived up to being a gold medal winner and become the pro I guess was expected then he wasn't bad for British boxing but in the end became an embarrassing idiot but an embarrassing idiot worth millions.
I woud not say he damaged British boxing. He just never lived up to expectations, people thought when he won gold that he would have a bright future as a pro.Sadly he just never cut it in the pros.He did no damage,he just wasn`t very good
Like most i think the BBC debacle is the biggest impact he's had on boxing, can't blame him for taking the deal but if he hadn't come round and they didn't have that experience, which they were getting slayed for every week by a certain high profile boxing promoter, would the beeb still be in boxing? Who knows really, they seemed to be looking for excuses to dump it anyway.
Weather its his fault or not- I would defo say BAD For all the exitement and interest/new fans his excellent Olympic gold medal brought. That is surley outweighed by The fans/interest he lost through his tedius 'fights' on the beeb(and other places!)- which was surley the reason the Beeb pulled out the sport, leaving all fans & the sport in general far worse off. And the farce of his 'Fight' with Haye- which mugged off so many and surley killed off a lot of new/returning fans interest in the sport. I wish! he'd never laced up a glove- For that exiting week or so in the olympics v's the wasted time/money watching him in the pro's & subsequent loss of BBc coverage. For me the answer to the question, he was very BAD
take off the blind fold since harrison robbed the bbc banging on how its his destiny what boxing have you seen on normal british television since, the guy as made millions and achieved absolutely nish you dont think froch or haye would have gone on to bigger things than ordinary as, because both have and its cost them and us :-( ordinary is like the highway man comes to britain takes all the money a flees like a thief in the night, and at least the highway man had the balls to tell you he was robbing you :deal
Well money apart I think he was mainly bad for himself. He's the one who has to walk around for the rest of his time having no boxing credibilty whatsoever and being considered a joke,as a pro anyway.
