Pavlik is a shadow of the man he once was.
Pirog is the wrong man for him to fight against after all the abuse his body took.

I think honestly, if you look back at the 12 rounds.. Maciel came to not get KO'd, and didn't really come to try and win this fight.

It's like the Ishe Smith approach.

Pirog hasn't fought in 8 months, he fought a very good tricky opponent, and he's still inexperienced at the elite level. I'd say this is a growing fight for him. It's the fight after this where he'll have to show sharpness and press his will to impress.

    Good fight!

    Good analogy.

Maciel is on about the same level as Ishe Smith, actually. In other words, not a world beater but MUCH better than the bum most people had him pegged for.

For Pirog, this is my first time to watch him live.

Enough of you guys are sayin' he's usually way better for me to believe this is an off night I guess.

He wasn't real "MW Title holder" sharp lookin' to me.

I think Pirog was rusty tonight against a very game opponent, perhaps this will coax someone into fighting him.

What is taking so long? :think

That cute brunette in the audience...is that Pirog's girlfriend or something? They've shown her several times.

    115-112
    117-110
    115-111

and STILL middleweight champion - Dmitry Pirog

the argentina dude was doing a good job attacking pirog body, pirog really didn't like that so started fighting more at distance.

Check out some of his kayos on Youtube.

    He can be exciting.

This was a bad style match-up.

He was actually nervous about this fight. He didn't want to face Maciel, he thought he was way too awkward and too high-risk/low-reward.

Martinez would make Pirog look silly IMO. Not because Pirog didn't impress, but because he's simply not dynamic or schooled enough to deal with that kind of puzzle. It would be Dzinziruk all over again. Good fight, don't get me wrong, but I don't see Pirog being able to handle that kind of opponent.

One thing I noticed in this fight- Pirog steps awkwardly from side to side. He often moves his front foot first moving both left and right. Bad habit, limits foot-speed and leaves you vulnerable off balance. Anyone else catch this?

    agreed.
In the end Maciel certainly appeared to be content to be the "surviving opponent" out there.

He did have some good defense though...only he was using a **** ton of energy with all that movement (a lot of it unneccessary) and end up so gassed he becomes unable to throw goin' down the home stretch.
