Tyson just got KO´d by Lennox and had only 3 more fights winning one and losing two by KO. Roy would have destroyed him. Tyson was done at that point.
Check this, this is before jones moves down to 175 again, and vs a Tyson who had just beaten etienne and before he lost to danny williams. It seems that jones wanted this match up but couldnt get it so moved down to tarver.
When I saw thread heading I thought the poll would be: How many seconds before Roy gets ko'd. 0 - Tysons staredown is too much 5 - Tyson lands a jab 10 - Tyson scratches his arse, then lands a jab 15 - The ring girls caught Tysons eye, mmmm fresh meat 20 - Roy Jones caught Tysons eye, mmmm fresh meat 25 - Tyson spends 20 seconds telling Atlas (who's picked Roy) he's a *****, before landing a jab.
Don King would have been the promoter, as he had options on Roy Jones after the Ruiz fight. The fight didn’t happen because Tyson would not fight for King. Jones tried to put together a fight with Holyfield, but that never came off (probably due to money), with Holyfield then fighting James Toney. Jones talked about unification match with Corrie Sanders but then decided on moving back down and fighting Tarver. Interesting enough just after Tyson lost to Lewis King wanted Tyson to fight Ruiz and Tyson wouldn’t fight for him then either. The Tyson that fought Williams looked the best he had since the Golota fight and only lost in my opinion because of the knee injury. I believe he would have had no fear of Jones and caught him at some stage, Jones was never a Heavyweight.
Even the Tyson that fought Williams would have went through Glass Jaw Roy like a hot knife through butter. No way could Roy take ANY of those punches Williams did in the first couple of rounds.
Jones in the greatest performance of his career? It would have been a question of who breaks down mentally from the sheer athletic prowess over the other. Jones has never been in with anyone that had something so overwhelmingly advantageous against him. Tyson had never been in with someone able to clown him or frustrate him to the extent that a lean, Prime "heavyweight" Roy Jones Jr, could. Tyson would be the favorite, but at this point in time Jones has more than a small chance to evade him early and tag him consistently in the second half, for sure.
