i must have looked at that gif 10000 times to see that he threw a hook at him cuz the angel is really bad and its small and the quality isnt helping but his feet is planted and doesnt piot his fot so its not a check hook

Widdow you should know better by now, bud. Most posters on this forum aren't willing to learn or understand. They just want to argue.

I have boxed since I was 9 years old. What Wlad Klit did in that GIF is most certainly a check hook. I wasn't given the technical name, if you want to call it that, of a check hook until I was about 15.

My trainer always taught me this is the point of a check hook. When you are fighting an aggressive fighter. They don't have to be leaping or lunging in a major way. Just an aggressive fighter who sweeps in with their shots. The entire point of a check hook is to time that opponent, and catch them just at the same point that you know they are about to sweep, lunge, or leap in with a shot. How hard they are coming forward doesn't matter, although of course it adds power if they jump into it. Anyways when they are about to sweep in like Peter did, you launch your hook to catch them before their hook will be able to reach you. We were taught to get back out of the way directly after landing our hook, in whatever way made sense.

For me, it was always easier to leap back away like Wlad did when my opponent was coming at me with a left hook. I think he landed a perfect check hook on Peter and got back away right afterward avoiding Peter's offense.

Now if my opponent came at me with a lunging right hand, I always felt it was easier to throw my hook and then pivot on my left out to the side. That way my opponents momentum carried them past me in the direction that they were coming. I never felt comfortable pivoting on someone throwing a left hook on me, because I was sort of moving right into them if they weren't lunging with their attack too much.

In the case of Floyd vs Ricky, Ricky was throwing a left, but he was really diving in, which made it simple for Floyd to side step away and let Ricky run himself right into the corner.

I don't know if any of this will help, or if anyone really cares. Just figured I would throw in my 2 cents. By the way, to the poster that said earlier that 10 different trainers would give you 10 different answers. You are probably right. Some trainers are very particular about the way that they want you to evade, and move. Some trainers don't even bother calling it a check hook. The term is only really to get you to understand that you are checking your opponent with a hook as you anticipate their attack coming at you. The movement after the fact really doesn't matter so long as you do in fact get out of the way.

It's a hard one to judge just by viewing that gif. Peter doesn't lunge in, Wlad doesn't even look like he is countering...they both seem to trade left hooks at the same time, Wlad's lands first. After it lands, Wlad leans back...but he does this very often also.

Like I said, hard one to judge.

Edit: In fact, after looking at it again. I would probably say it was a check hook. Wlad plants his feet, throws the left hook as Peter steps in to land his left hook...he definitely gets lucky when his shot lands first, it gives him enough time to let Peter's shot go sailing past.
