Don't be a tit. Not everybody is destined for world titles. He won close but clear against somebody that wasn't a bad fighter tonight. It's not as if he was fighting the average Afrobum, the guy clearly had some ability.

As for the domestic scene comments we all know Matthew would of been retired a longtime ago if he didnt have the surname, Watson dished out a lesson and the poor sod gets shuffled to the back

Matt Hatton is just an example of why you're talking shite. Yes he didn't really deserve the fights he got but he got them and when he did he won the European title and beat a couple of good fighters at that level. Vassell is still young with a lot to improve on, reaching that kind of level is not out of his grasp if he learns and gets the right fights. Suggesting people chuck it in if they're not looking like world class prospects is the attitude of a moron. There would be about 100 fighters in the whole world.

Whats matthew hatton got to do with vassell? Apart from having the same promoter of course. You implied that if a fighter only aspires to domestic level he might as "well chuck it in". Which is a bit daft.

I can see both sides of the argument here. Vassel doesn't look up to much. His technical ability is poor, He hasn't got a set up to speak off, he was stepping over with the wrong foot, squaring up and can't avoid a right hand to safe is life. But his determination is admirable, he's persistant, always working and can dig some hurtful body shots home.

I only saw snippets of the fight, but Denton looked decent in spots against a very tricky style for him, although if his opponent had a little more pop he would've been in trouble. Vassel worked away, didn't get too frustrated and had his opponent in survival mode for large parts of it. I think he should've gone to the body a lot more and stepped across the line of attack. He also needs to roll underneath punches, especially the straight and right cross and work more effective when he's on the inside.

It's clear he's not gonna be a world beater, but he's fun to watch and will give a lot of fighters problems just on his workrate and toughness, especially those who can't back him up. I wouldn't call him "crap" that's being very harsh. If he was crap he would've got detered and lost tonight, and in the end he looked to have won it very clearly.

Yep. There is plenty of refinement to do on setting up his attacks. Jim Watt wasn't too far off the mark, there is a lot of wading in, throwing punches and hoping for the best.

I liked his head movement in the 1st round but he struggles to maintain it and gets carried away with just rushing in. Doesn't really use a jab either as a weapon or a distraction. Doesn't feint a lot. Doesn't really think about range too much, he's not at the ideal range for himself a lot of the time and falls in.

At the moment he's a bit of a punching machine with strength, not bad speed or power. Just not a lot of thought going into it. He can definitely improve these things if they get him the right fights, he's just got to make sure he does and not fall into the same trap as Matthew Hall who never really improved.

Mathew Hall is a good example, he has a lot of the same bad habits. Tbh i don't know how much improvement a fighter like that can make...and even worse for him he's not a big puncher to the point where he can hurt/stop guys at this level with single hooks. I think he'll win some and lose some, but give us a fun ride. All the best to the kid.

That's a slightly nescient comment. There's fighters who've taken huge amounts of punishment in their careers, but they're perfectly fine. It's not just pro boxing per se. There's a lot of variables that got into things like this. Some fighters are just more predisposed to it and Vassel might be one of them. It also doesn't help that he probabily gets hit a lot in sparring sessions and looks to be somewhat of a gym rat.

  10. Is that the first time that Nick Halling has commentated on s fight for Sky?

IIRC he done the odd one for Eurosport back in the day but I have never heard him doing the boxing on Sky before

Yep, i think it was his first time on Sky, mate. Did a decent job by all accounts although he seemed to be a bit lifeless at times, which is not like him at all.

    He's hilarious on KOTV.

"If it's not KO, then it's not OK...OK?"

What do you think they should do with him career wise then lads? i wasn't impressed tonight like the Purdy fight. So what can they do because looks like he needs alot of refinement. Any names you put him in with over next 12 months?
