Greens title is as legit as Siacca beating Mundine for the SMW title.atsch

Maybe this is why the general public cling onto Green/Mundine as there world champs because there as close to it as we have been for a few years..

some good points, im still a bit confused about the super champ bit. If the champ retires and is elevated to super champ then doesnt the guy fighting for the vacant title hold rights to claim world champion? much more so than an IBO title?

in any event both guys seem to know how to play the game, Mundine a little better than Green as he is able to hold onto it for a while whilst Green flees and pledges his retirement, only to come back and win the IBO title and carry on like he is the best CW in the world. Danny isnt playing both promoter and fighter either, he has a promoter, he is just going against everything he has said in the past and in his book and Milking his un-suspecting fans for every last drop.

I think the last Aussie to win legit titles, hold onto them and unify a division was Kostya Tszyu, none have come close since. Some said Lenny Zappa was the next KT however going from his last fight he is far from a KT.

Word has it KTs son will be turning pro soon, lets hope Australia gets a real fighter again who will win world titles and unify the division. Katsidis is also a great fighter trying to win world titles but is also a limited fighter stuck with Smith who really cant take him any further than they have gone, similar situation with Zappa.

I really think KTs son will be the next real deal to come out of Australia. Dont really see anyone else other than him at this stage.

There was no disputing Stipe Drews was the reigning WBA world champion when he fought Green. There was no super champion above him, and Green beat Drews easily to wrest the title off him. The fact that Drew put up a **** poor performance in defending his WBA title against Green does not diminish the fact that the fight WAS for the WBA title.

Why Green chose to quit the title and boxing is anyone's guess. But it certainly does nothing to enhance his reputation.

Champion boxer Joe Bugner has hit out at Aussie fighter Anthony Mundine during a celebrity lunch in Noosa.

Bugner christened Aussie Joe when he and his Chinchilla-born wife took up residence in 1986 said that there was no way Mundine could win another fight.

Mundine is set for a re-match against Garth Wood on April 13, after being knocked out by The Contender Australia winner in December.

Speaking at a sportsmen’s lunch at Noosa Yacht & Rowing Club, Bugner pulled no punches as he gave a colourful insight into a career that spanned 33 years.

Paying tribute to the great fighters of the past, Bugner said Australian boxers had lost their way.

``If I had to count how many great boxers there are today I would have to say zero,” he said.

``Mundine claims to be a champion but can anyone tell me which fight he won to claim that title?”

Bugner had only 16 fights as an amateur before turning professional at the tender age of 17.

As the former International Heavyweight Boxing Champion, he was undefeated European, British, and Commonwealth Champion, retaining the three titles for nine years.

Bugner won and defended the Australian and PABA titles three times and won the World Boxing Federation version of the heavyweight crown in 1998.

At the age of 49 years and 110 days, it made him the oldest boxer ever to hold a world championship belt.

Bugner is the only fighter to have gone the distance twice with the great Muhammad Ali and they remain good friends.

Starting life in a poor farming community in Hungary, Bugner’s family fled to the UK after the 1956 Soviet invasion.

He said anyone could achieve greatness if they put their mind to it.

Bugner fought and lost to ali which is admirable but nothing to go nuts over as he lost, same with frazier.

Bugner became the WBF world heavyweight champion.

Mundine was a WBA and IBO world champion in different divisions, he had the highest grossing fight in his division at the time, competed in another sport before turning to boxing after 3 am fights when he was 17 and won his national title in 5 fights.
