Yuriorkis Gamboa vs. Jorge Solis, Mikey Garcia vs. Matt Remillard & undercard RBR

This is for the NABF featherweight title. (basically the "American" title)

 

Round 1

Remillard jabs to the body, and brings a curling right hand around to the body as well. Garcia very sparse with his punches. Remillard doing well with body punches. Garcia suddenly explodes about two minutes in with a sequence of VERY hard punches. Most of them are blocked but Remillard is getting slammed into the ropes. Remillard gets back behind the jab and pushing Garcia back. Garcia blocks jabs and throws his own, laying off the gas pedal a bit. Remillard jabs out of his high guard and puts a right cross behind his next jab. Remillard ducks a pair of hooks. Remillard jabbing Garcia in the face. Garcia has a hook blocked at the bell.

Remillard 10-9

Garcia had some telling volleys in the middle there, but overall didn't do nearly enough. Body shots scored for Remillard, and jabs.

 

Round 2

Garcia is working some jab/uppercut combos as Remillard cautiously approaches. Garcia hitting the guard of Remillard, mostly. Big overhand right by Remillard, but doesn't get all the way through. Garcia lands a pair of hooking shots on the inside. Remillard with another overhand right but blocked. Garcia lands an uppercut. Remillard backs him up with a stiff jab. Garcia is letting Remillard come to him and outpunching him anyway. Very good round for Mikey. Remillard is still very game. Garcia's just winning on quality punching.

WHOA! Remillard beans him with a massive right hand just before the bell. Doesn't quite steal the round. Close, though.
