Does or has anybody watched or followed this guy? I watched all of his fights in the olympics and loved them. He was so much more exciting than the rest and for a rough slugger type to win so greatly in an amature format is quite rare. I looked him up alot and then he turned pro and I loved it. I've watched all is fights since, or at least the ones I can see, and he is a great fighter to watch. He, as I said when he faught in Bejing, is a lesser version of Tyson. Not quite as good in any area, but he is strong and quick with good movement and I'm surprised he has not got more recognition. He might not get quite so far in the division as he is around welterweight and would probably get beat by alot of stylish fighters, but he could definently make it big with his exciting style. Opinions? His current record is 9-0 (6KO) if I'm right.

He has the potential to be a world champion...

Yeah he needs that push in America. I was thinking that he is at 9-0 and Degale is already one of the most well known brittish boxers at only 10-0 since they both turned professional roughly the same time after the olympics. I'm not sure about world champion but he seems to be a promising counter puncher, so if he focused in on that he might just do it. He is the first guy I ever really followed as a propect in boxing so I'd love if he did something big.

Why does he need to go to the States? Hes progressing better than any of the olympians from Beijing that are based in the States.

He is good, I like him and think he is more suited to the pros than amateurs. Shouldnt have won gold in Beijing though, was beneficial of some very poor judging

I think if he went to the states he'd be able to develop his skills a bit more. He has not really progressed at all since the amatures, and I've watched almost all of his fights. Obviously he is only working on his power and speed while there is a very effective style which can heavily establish him as a great fighter in his arsenal, the counter punching, although he isn't utilizing it well at the moment. If he went to the states, started training on that and developing along, all the while still fighting bums, he might move his skill set forward and also get a little bit of hype behind him which will help in the future as he will be looking for title shots etc. and his exciting style will generate him some buzz quickly imo.

Finally somebody else who knows him! I have very high hopes for him and was very disappointed that the Nuzhenko fight fell through, but that's boxing for you. Despite being small for the weight, he makes up for it with excellent timing, illustrated by his knockout of Kubin, which was brilliant. He has the patience of a fighter beyond his years too, it's early days in his career but he's never over-eager to stop his opponent and goes about his business. I'm not sure about ''stylish'' fighters beating him, you'd need a lot more than that to get past Diaz.

he looks good as his last fight indicates, the thing that surprised me was his speed and footwork and underrated power

The stylish fighters I meant were established outside fighters. If he is thrown in with someone who keeps their distance well he will be succeptable to a decision loss at this point. If he keeps working on the timing and counter punching that will change but as it stands he is a little on the aggresive side. I like that a few people know him though. In like October or whenever I joined I made a similar thread although slightly less enthusiastic, but no one replied. Good to see people know the potential he has and he is getting some hype, although probably just from the coountrymen and hardcore as it stands.

Well, I know this thread was started a while back but there seems to be some change coming for Felix Diaz. I heard he is trying to move his career to the states and is considering some offers he has on the table. I hope he signs with someone who is going to give him real exposure. It's really what he needs. I don't know much yet but I'm sure it will be out there as soon as he gets signed with someone. Hopefully he signs with GoldenBoy or someone along those lines. We shall see.

Couldnt get into him after that french boxer was absolutely robbed in the semifinals, paving the way for his Gold medal.

Well, but how is that his fault though? You can't blame him for that unless you think he had something to do with it and I just don't see how that could have been possible. I really do believe that if this guy gets a chance he could really go somewhere. He has good skill and is very patient and I also think his power is underrated a bit.
