Prime isnt completely physical. Hopkins has more know how then before and had physical advantages over Calzaghe in that Hopkins was in a weight he was adjusted to. Oh and for the record G Johnson has just scored his biggest SMW victory in his last fight and is alot better now than when he was in his 30s. Theres a fighter there, so proves you wrong yet again

Hopkins like Calzaghe has a great chin, but lets remember one thing, when Hopkins has been floored and the ref has called it, he has never been able to get up and win. Calzaghe did it every time

Jones was still a way off to fighting Toney at this time and lets not lie, Toney was P4P #2 not 1. Besides those ratings are very bias.
Just look at who Toney was facing leading up to a Jones bout

1993 he wins the title from iran barkley a fighter who years earlier was blown away by nigel benn in 1 round and pummelled to a loss by a shot roberto duran, barkley went onto lose 11 out of 25 fights following this fight and never beat anyone who was remotely good in doing so,the guy was so desperate he was even plying his trade as a HW in the late 90's against the likes of berbick and they say this era is a joke

admit it,calzaghe is the greatest smw ever and the people who complain about bum resumes are the same people who pump ^^^^that **** up and the likes of bhops resume too

calzaghes record pisses all over toneys resume at there prime weights, and Toney beat Jirov.

The ratings must have been bias unless the era was that weak. Toney arguably wasnt the best SMW at the time with Benn and Eubank having far better SMW resumes

vs Toney he averaged 86 ppr and threw 1032 punches

vs Castro he threw 944 punches

vs Washington (10 rds) he threw 740 punches and 440 power punches, averaging 44 power punches a round.......

- going into the Toney fight he was 31-0 (27 KO's) with a 87% KO ratio

- Jirov broke the 400 mark in landed punches vs Castro with 433 punches landed. It's only been done 25 times in compubox history and is something Calzaghe never has.....

Toney was most likely on steroids to be honest i really cannot put too much stock in his career cruiser and up personally. :deal being said jirov was a great cruiser and a bad heavy.

Yes Calzaghe was closer to the end of his career, I have never denied that fact. But that doesn't automatically mean he was as past prime as Hopkins as you have stipulated on numerous occaisons. But being closer to retirement does not mean he was more faded than Hopkins who had already retired once 2 years prior to even fighting Calzaghe.

Also what does hand issues have to due with a fighters physical prime? Calzaghe had hand issues when he fought Reid when he was 26, are you saying Calzaghe was past prime then? Hand problems alone do not automatically mean a fighter is past prime. It just means he has a physical impairment, like being cut or having your nose broken in a fight, an injury even a reoccuring one does not meant you are past prime.

Yes people age differently but Hopkins wasn't in his 30's he was 43 when he fought Calzaghe, so was over a decade past what is usually regarded as then begining of a humans physical decline. If you can name me one fighter who was at his peak or close to it at the age of 43 then you might have an argument but that fighter doesn't exsist.

You love bringing up the Mercado draw don't you? You always leave out the fact Hopkins took that fight at 2 weeks notice, the decision was controversial and was fought at very high altitude which for a fighter who hasn't prepared for it, is a huge disadvantage. I could use the fact that Calzaghe got dropped by Mitchell in his prime and then a light hitting Hopkins as a sign that he had a weak chin but that clearly isn't true as he has shown an iron chin throughout the rest of his career. Bringing up one example of a poor performance does not mean that every other performance would be of the same level, there is big range of deviation in that regard.

You call Hopkins performance over Jones Jr lame yet the number 1 p4p fighter James Toney did worse when they fought and Jones Jr would have beaten Calzaghe in a similar fashion.

Yeah i suspect the steroids too. Jirov planned on fighting at HW right out of the amateurs. He was going to just fight a couple at CW (190) while he was bulking up but ended up staying. Jirov at HW in 2003 vs Mesi was already pretty shot in large part due to the Toney fight.

It would have been interesting if he stepped up at HW around 2001/2002. He may have even been able to get a belt since guys like Holyfield, Rahman, Ruiz, Byrd were belt holders from 2002-2004.

I see Jirov taking control of this bout in rounds 3-4 once he establishes that his 100 well executed punches are miles more effective than Joe's 100 slaps per rd.
I have Jirov wearing Calzaghe down by round 10 with a TKO stoppage in round 11. I expect the punch stat to be heavily in Jirov's favor as he walks through Calzaghe's slaps and rains 10s of punches onto Slappy's thick skull.

At 175 if he isnt drained Jirov would be too big and put too much pressure on Joe Slapsalot. He can keep the same pace as Calzaghe but his punches back more power. Jirov also had a good jab and could box so if he could change gears on Joe.

The only advantages Joe has in this fight is speed and movement and Jirov was no Lacy though when it came to foot work he could get on his toes and box when he wanted to.

Styles make fights Jirov close UD. At Cruiser he prob wears Joe down and stops him late I dont see Calzaghe carrying the weight well to fight at 190 or 200.

Cruiserweight limit was 190 when Jirov was champion. Only 15 pounds to get to 175.
