 It's an age group thing, all the youngsters idolised Ricky & thought him unbeatable, but the grey hairs nearly all too a man thought he had no chance especially against Floyd & when the Pac fight came up, it was just raised eyebrows across a crowded room & the 1st thought to mind was how can we $$$ fleece these young greenhorns:lol:

Not at all. But that doesn't mean I'd walk up to a World Champion fighter and tell him he's not living the right way and when he should or shouldn't take his holidays :blood. Hey, maybe you did man, but I find it unlikely he'd just walk away and not at least tell you to go **** yourself. :D

By the way, no one here is disputing that he didn't live well between fights. It definitely cost him. He was physically past it at 30 years of age. That's very disappointing for a professional fighter. That doesn't automatically make him a bum however.

So based on the thread starters reasons for Ricky Hatton being a bum, mainly because of his lifestyle OUTSIDE the ring and NOT filling maximum potential, Does this make MIKE TYSON a bum?

At my age it takes alot to shock me to any extent but that night we all went to this Italian for the after show Ricky karioke session it was more a case of being annoyed with the bloke He really did'nt give a **** nor did his agent who's only real job was to fetch & carry ale for Hatton, he did'nt even really know where he was!!! 4 shows a week on the road getting £15K+ per night & out of his tree all the time combined with a sniff of boost to get him upright for the start of the next show.

The rapacious pursuit of cash is the be all & end all of Team Hatton & at the time Hatton's crew had it all worked out with GBP as he was going to fight DLH next at Wembley & along comes pacman to **** up the golden goose. Never in their wildest nightmares did they expect pacman to wipe out DLH.

Rickies hero is Roberto Duran & he's always tried to emulate that persona & lifestyle outside the ring, you've heard him say it many times that his hero blew up in weight & still managed to win title fights & thats where the delusion lay, Hatton ain't DURAN.

Everyone's allowed to blow off steam for sure but to adopt, celebrate & promote the fact that being a pisshead can lead too & maintain success in any walk of life gets it's just comeuppance & that was in the form of hattons polar opposite in PACMAN:deal

Thats YOU!! thats not ME!! Yooz a backslapper!! I ai'nt!!

It's obvious you don't know much about Ricky Hatton, thats what Hatton's persona & image has been based on, approachable working class man o the people, one of the lads in the boozer. Anyway why not say what yer got to say, what i said to ricky was more out of concern & justified concern at that. At my age i ai'nt fazed by any ****er & if you're in intimate company then you speak freely, it's not as if i was trying to insult the ****, he was the shape of a beer barrel & glagged out of his head, yeh he could have told me to go **** myself & i would have replied with similar, no big deal. Yeh maybe he was'nt expecting me to say that but so what.

Anyway what i said was **** all compared to what my mate said to him, Hatton stood up at his table & thanked everyone for there company & a good night & then his agent handed out some t-shirts to which my mate siad "What ****in clown designed this" Hatton stood up & said "Thats our new Hatton clothing range" I nearly wet myself with laughter at my mates embarasement, the hatton crew did not find that at all funny:lol:

I hope this fight doesn't ruin Ricky. He's got to move on with his life.

Yeh Starstruck, i recken the TS is a yank who are deff prone to this affliction, could be wrong, if it's a Brit then he's got to get out a bit more or he's obviously very young.

At the end of the day Hatton's legacy will be the image of him laid out like a corpse, damb pity but you reep what you sow.

I was in newcastle in 2002 when i flew up to meet my all time god/hero Roberto duran when he 1st came over here & Hatton got up to pay due hommage & asked him a few questions & hoped he could achieve a quarter of what Roberto had & Duran replied. TO SUCCEED YOU MUST SACRIFICE EVERYTHING!! YOU MUST LOVE THIS LIKE YOUR WIFE!! YOUR *****!! YOUR CHILDREN!! YOUR LIFE!!

I've still got the tape of the night so i'll go find it & get the compleate translation. But he was telling Hatton that he's got to dedicate himself compleatly & Hattons always said Roberto's his idol & that night we were in thr resturant it came to the forefront of my mind in a nano second about what Duran had said to Hatton when i was talking to him & i was going to mention it, but it would have fallen on deaf ears. He loves the booze too much to sacrifice that & paid the ultimate price in humiliation in being laid out like a drunk by Pacman.

I'd be starstruck in the presence of one of my favourite fighters...not Ricky Hatton. I still wouldn't have the balls to say, "sort it out mate, ffs".

That night we all talked about the pacman fight & you could sense the forboding in the air when i raised the subject, you know it was just put into the conversation when we were having a laugh about the good times we've all had in vegas & i said when you going over mate, earlier the better yeah!!. Nah proberbly around mid march after me holiday & thats when i think i said something like "bin the holiday" & it went on from there with the back & forth but i was the only one to actually say something as the rest who attended all kept there eyes to the floor when i mentioned pacquiao. Every ****er new that Hatton could be in serious serious trouble, No one that night said Ricky's going to win, they just wanted to avoid the subject like a taboo but i would'nt:lol: well we all like a drink don't we & say what we're thinking all to easy & honestly:lol:

Ricky Hatton was definitely a warrior, an entertaining character and a very exciting fighter. Flaws were there for everyone to see but he was no bum. He was clearly the most commited european fighter of the last decades alongside with Nigel Benn, even more commited than Joe Calzaghe, Amir Khan, P Naseem Hamed, L Lewis, the Klitschko brothers, Javier Castillejo, Felix Sturm or Mikkel Kessler. Possibly this SMW Carl Froch is also very commited to fight but Hatton was one of the best.
