Why Lopez & Gamboa should fight now...from Bob Arums point of view

Arums excuse for not having them fight yet is that the fight is not big enough yet, niether man is a PPV attraction etc etc.

But if you look back at Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barerra niether of them were mega stars until after there first fight, which was on a HBO Boxing After Dark card (the same as Gamboa's last 3 fights and Lopez's HBO fights so far)

If Gamboa and Lopez face off, and have the FOTY candidate fight many predict, they can do it again and again as a PPV fight and the winner and loser will both become mega stars in the sport like Barerra and Morales did a decade ago.

 

Without your suggestion of them fighting now, when do they become PPV attractions?

 

honestly never. i don't see how the fight can get any bigger.

 

He knows it's easier to Market a Puerto Rican.

I tend to think thats what he is worried about. Gamboa just walking through him and there he is left with no star and it will take a few more years before Gamboa crosses over.

If Gamboa or Lopez wins a close war he has two stars.

 

the whole 'lets wait till the fight is bigger' talk is not helping our sport.

fans want to see the best fight the best, we dont want to wait till there afew years older and abit more well known , the fight isn't going to get any bigger then it is now.

Get them in together and lets get these lower weight trilogies going again is what i say.

The loser always has a super fight with Burns waiting for him at 130

 

Gmaboa clearly wants the fight and basically said Juanma was ducking him in his post fight interview.

Juanma came in and said that he never ducked Gamboa and wants the fight.

Gamboa replied "There you go, everybody heard him, its Gamboa vs Juanma after he beats Salido".

Arum will stop the fight from happening though. Does anyone actually doubt that?

 

Usually Arum isn't that bothered about shoving people in there.

I mean..... he made Cotto vs Margarito, he's put Pacquiao in with pretty much everybody too.

Not sure why he's so hesitant to make this one.

Lopez is a pretty big draw, Gamboa isn't. Gamboa would run through Lopez and leave Arum without a star. There's a chance Yuri's following would grow after the Lopez fight but that's too risky atm. Perhaps at this point in time he's more concerned about how many other stars he has in his stable than he was when he made Cotto vs Marg. Or perhaps more likely, he didn't see Margarito beating up on Cotto and thought it was safe

At least that's what I think. There could be a couple other different reasons

 

Don't matter a **** we'd still not see it on Sky.

(It wouldn't be a war anyway it'd be a six round decapitation of Lopez)

actually I take it back Sky being ******ed Sky would probably spring it on us and expect the mainstream to know who the **** they are with a couple of 5 mins previews on Ringside. Gamboa and Lopez should've been on Sky donkeys ago. Lopez v Mtagwa in particular - what a fight that was. And Gamboa is just always so good to watch.

 

This fight is as big as its going to get. If anything its a little overcooked, because Gamboa has gone from being doubted when he was the lesser attraction to Gamboa being rated highly and Juanma being doubted which isn't good because Juanma is the one that pulls in crowds.

 

Arum rakes in more from Lopez's fans than Gamboa's. More marketing needs to be done on Yuri. He should be a superstar right now.

Wonder what kind of contract Gamboa has with Big Bob.

Gamboa is part 'owned' by that Turk/German tool Oner, I think if Arum had full rights to Gamboa then he might be less hesitant?
