Wlad just wants Haye, the wba paper belt is a trinket he'll let Vitali have first option on if it isn't up for grabs July 2nd.

These are related. Step-aside cash has to come from Haye. Haye won't fork it over unless WBA threatens to take away his belt.

yep... I can hear it now...
    HAYE: "my back hurts"
WLAD: "we will cover the step aside cash"
HAYE: "My back feels better now"

Wlad may not care but Haye does since I am sure the size of his purse depends on whether or not he brings the belt into the fight.

If WBA already ordered a title fight for April 3, why didn't they stop Haye from negotiating with Wlad?

    WBA is ****ed.

Wlad beat Chagaevin 2009, who beat Valuev. Haye beat Valuev so the winner of Wlad vs. Haye is the "double WBA Champ" with belt or not. :D

There's no reason Haye couldn't have cleared his mandatory by the prescribed date. Haye and Chagaev both were in the ring within a week of each other last November. Haye's 3 round staring contest with Audley was hardly grueling.

There should have been a purse bid and fight by now. Instead the WBA screwed around with letting Haye try to pick his mandatory (Mormeck, Rahman, Povetkin)....with that backing of the hypocritical BBBofC (They won't license Chagaev to fight, but yet they require all fighters to be vaccinated against Hep B, which means Haye is safe). Haye realized that was too much risk and not a good payday as a fight with Wlad and scrapped that idea.

I can understand why Universum is pissed, they've been screwed around with since Sauerland stole the belt from them. I think they are due some compensation for this at this point. But unification does outrank a mandatory defense, it's clearly stated in the WBA rules. This unification fight is too much money on the table for the WBA to call off now so that Chagaev can take his shot, it won't happen. Step-aside money in this case isn't unreasonable, and I don't see it as Chagaev looking for a free lunch. He wants the shot at Haye.

I disagree with others on this thread that have said K2 could/should help with step-aside money, or agree for Vitali to fight Chagaev in June. This isn't K2's mess, it's Hayes problem. He is the one that stalled and didn't take care of business. Any money needs to come out of his pocket. Hayemaker promotions look more and more like an amateur production with each move they make.

Would Vitali consider a fight with Chagaev?

Not a bad name for the resume. It would be a better match-up than Vitali/Valuev no?

Vitali Vs. Haye is what I want to see, or Vlad.

I do not blame Chagaev, he has been cheated too many times..........

So mandatory challenger with HIV should get his shot, because he can get a fight in Indian reservations?

It shouldn’t be champion’s problem, if challenger’s health doesn’t allow him to fight
