Is there any chance Golden Boy did on purpose to thwart Donaire's career?

Let me get this straight. TR and Donaire signed a 3 yr. contract on June 2008 which means that he's still under TR as we speak. How can GBP sign Donaire if he's still under TR? What am I missing here?

Who believes GBP didn't read and understand what was in Donair's contract?
Who believes GBP didn't know about the 'no poach' agreement?
Who believes GBP thought Donair's lawsuit over breach of contract meant he could do as he damned well pleased? If Donair filed a breach of contract suit to get out of his contract then he must have felt it was still in effect? No?

The only argument here is what is legally binding. As I understand it, this can't even go to court. It goes to the arbitrator as agreed on before. In spite of what I have seen here, I doubt anyone posting has actually read the documents, let alone understand the legalize they are written in.

Kevin Ioles article said that Donaire had taken his case to court in Nevada, which sounds like he may have won (?), but Top Rank said they had not been served on that ruling, so thier contract is still binding.

This might be why Donaire thought he was free of Top Rank, and possibly why GBP thought so too. However, as others have pointed out, it appears Big Bob understands the law better than others involved.

    If I read that **** right...:p

OK. First I heard this. Any link to the ruling? I find it strange that there has been nothing mentioned about it. These things don't happen that fast in our court system.

Donaire's suit is still in circulation. Nothing is decided there yet, BUT Donaire's claim for that lawsuit is that Top Rank reneged on their deal that he is given 3 fights a year and that he was shelved for most of the first year of the contract, making him a free agent.

BUT he seems to have forgotten he was medically suspended for 300 days the first year, making TR's extension clause in regards to medical suspensions even more important.

I doubt Arum is going to overlook something that important. There's a big chance Donaire's lawsuit is also going to fail.

Looks and sounds to me like GBP jumped the gun when signing Donaire before being absolutely 100% sure that his contract w/ TR is not valid. At least that's what the arbitrator said about poaching each other's fighters (TR and GBP.)

Just to make things clearer to all.

Donaire declared himself a free agent citing breach of contract against TR for not giving him the 3 fights a year arrangement stipulated in the 2008 contract.

Donaire's contract has probably not expired yet at this point. 2008 to 2011 (3 years).

This is a very good theory which requires some smarts and planning. So GBP is either very smart to plan this or they are very stupid to not read Nonito's contract with Top Rank or maybe have read it but not totally understood it. Can't be both.

He didn't read the fine print about his medical suspensions. If that clause is real, then Donaire has no legal standing in his claim of being a free agent.

Somebody in his team or a legal adviser could have seen that. :-(

Maybe Rachael thought it was a waste of money to hire legal advisers when she could do it herself?

Just like Floyd thinking he could save money by doing his own tax.

Hard to imagine Arum wouldn't have all his bases covered in that contract accounting for injuries

Bottom line, I really like to see Donaire in the ring. I hope this gets worked out quickly.
