For the record anyways I think Eubank has the best Super Middleweight record of all time.

Well, I guess if Rocchigiani would have gotten the decision in his robberies or close fights (Michaelchewski I, Maske I, Eubank) I guess his stock would be pretty high. Still an underrated fighter who could pose problems for anyone. Was f*cked over by the promoters in Germany though due to him not having a clean "gentleman boxer" image they loved so much over here back then.

I did think he clearly won his first fight with Maske, and was robbed against Dariusz M of course. He also beat Nunn.

But Eubank had him, really bagged the rounds, no case for Rocchi winning that one in my eyes.

Hard to say if he was great since he didn't have enough fights vs. the greats to prove it, but he looked like he could have been. I would say very good.

Actually he never had a fight against a great fighter.

I disagree. It was a close fight, could have gone either way. I have no trouble with giving it to Eubank but neither would I have trouble giving it to Rocky. It´s a scoring thing. In the US and UK they seem to prefer aggressiveness and workrate while in Germany there is a huge focus on landing clean punches. I think most "robbieries" in Germany come from this.

Anyway, I just wanted to point out that Rockigiani is better than it seems on first glance and is an excellent win to have.

    I think Benn was great.

Straight after the McClellan fight, you just thought 'that guy is a great fighter'.

    Chris Eubank, '07:

'I realise there are five categories: good, very good, great, legend, and legend of your own time.

'If you win the title in a dignified manner then you are a good fighter.

'If you defend the title and don't dodge your mandated contender then you are a very good fighter.

'If you lose the title in a dignified manner but come and win then you are a great fighter.

'To become a legend, you need to make your mark on boxing history.

'To become a legend of your own time, you have to win the fight you can't win. That's verisimilitude. That's the highest order. That's what Nigel Benn achieved with the Gerald McClellan fight.'

    ..

'It's not what is said of you at the start of your career when you are all the rage.

'It's not what is said of you during your career when you are being hailed by the critics for better or for worse.

'It's what is said of you at the end of your career, how you are remembered, what matters.'

    ..

'My record: 45-5-2 with 24 world championship fights was one of the best in the history of world boxing.

'But what I actually achieved cannot be calculated by numbers: From the loudest boos to the loudest cheers through dignity and integrity.'

I never do these threads with an agenda, they've always been guys that I can see a case for them either way and I want to know if my image of them matches up with the average serious fan. I think Eubank is an arguable great. I can understand yes or no on this one. I couldn't understand anyone saying he was less than "very good" and I'm glad no one has.

    Very good but not great.
I believe that he should've lost Rocchigiani fight and Benn II.

Yeah, Rocky is very underrated fighter that I really admire. Just imagine what would his resume look like if he got decisons in fights with Maske, Eubank and if Michalczewski was not such a good actor ;-)

He is my favourite boxer ever. But I really do not think he is a 'Great', as in top 100. It would dilute the standards. I think he beats Hopkins at Middleweight though. Horrible, scrappy, **** fight it would be, but I see Chri'th taking it.
