Totally different counter punchers. Marquez counters with flurries of well timed combos. A mix of that, and his willingness to exchange made it a war. Not to mention, they were fighting at Marquez's best weight and Pac IMO wasn't as dynamic of a fighter yet. He was still mostly left handed.

Floyd rarely throws combos, much less when he's countering. He'll throw one or two counters and get back to defensive mode. Pacquiao will not be troubled by these shots for the most part because that dude is an animal.

My worry is Pac will outwork him and win on points. That and he also has a punchers chance. But I think Floyd is still going to be too rangy for Pac unless he doesn't have his legs anymore. If he doesn't, Pac may very well run all over him. I think Floyd knows this, which is why he doesn't want to fight.

 

what we know is, manny will bum rush and attack floyd thats for sure, what we dont know is what floyd will do, either go offensive, or stay defensive. Mayweather needs to be moving the whole time, dance with pacquiao to take away pacmans angles, same what marquez did on the first fight, keep moving while pacquiao is going in, counter from the outside, with hes reach advantage. problem with pacquiao is when he gets hit, he runs backwards with hes hands up, mayweathers offense will beat pacquiaos defense since he got none, or hes defense is counterering well against slower guys that is. Pacman cant let floyd get off first or hes going to loose.

Pacquiao is a truly special fighter in that he can both brilliantly on the front foot, and the back foot, something he couldn't do earlier in his career. I believe if Pacquiao WANTED TO he could feasibly go into the Mayweather fight intending only to win a decision based on workrate, move in and out, take few risks and hope to win a close fight by being alot busier.

The problem I have with Pacquiao's chances is that he has fought too many boxers who only wanted to steamroll him in his recent whirlwind reign. Come forward tough guys like Cotto/Hatton/Magarito had every intention of trying to overpower Pacquiao and failed.

If Mayweather and Pacquiao fight expect the action to be much much slower than expected. Pacquiao will be thinking three times more than he is used to. Also expect alot of turning around on the ropes, holding, and issues with the referee as well as Mayweather's corner. Floyd will try to do to Pacquiao what Hopkins did to Calzaghe, though he will do it with more grace.

My prediction: A very controversial SD for Pacquiao based on workrate in a fight where Floyd seemed not to get hurt, and landed the better punches of the night.

Floyd fans: Have to accept and appreciate that Pacquiao is a very good boxer, and has the movement and punch numbers to win a decision. He is not cannon fodder who will keep walking into counter right hands.

Pacquiao fans: Have to accept that if the fight does happen it will not resemble in the slightest any of Pacquiao's recent fights. It will be a close, awkward affair where Pacquiao's power is negated in a big way.
