What was Sutherlands record in fights vs these opposition.

I know he beat Degale something like 4 out of five times and gave Smith a few hidings.

I think Andy Lee outpointed him.

Now more than ever it's a real shame he isn't in the mix in the pro ranks.

He deserved his shot as a pro, to be in the same position Degale and Groves are in now. So sad he had such painful demons, he had real potential and a lot of friends it seems.

I know he was a quality amateur, but this thread just made me remember what a terrible loss this was, for a number of reasons.

Sutherland had a good win over darren o neill aswell. o Neill won silver in the european champions last year, and has won multiple national senior titles. I heard Sutherland beat Degale 3/5 fights but i might be wrong.

I do, maybe im a bit biased though. He seemed to have a great pro style, and a solid amateur career. At least we got a glimpse into his talents in his short pro career.

Just doin a bit of reading on him and apparently the family had his body exhumed late last year, strange.

What a shame, such a great prospect!

He definitely was good enough to win domestic titles at 168. He would be really in the mix at this stage of his career if he was still fighting and a fight with either Groves or Degale would have been a massive Ireland vs England affair that would have captivated the public.

I think he beats Groves and loses to Degale.

I think Sutherland was a very good fighter. Seemed to have fast hands, powerful shots and good upper body movement. He was also a decent boxer on the outside, capable of throwing a jab and winning rounds from the outside. However, he was a small 168 pounder and liked to mix it up inside.

I think he would have developed into a really good fighter. A possible all Irish affair with Brian Magee would have been a good fight that I think he would have won. Andrade, Sartison, Steiglitz.. all very beatable as he developed and he definitely could have held a title and got to the elite level, as I feel Degale will.

At that stage, when he had fully developed, mega fights with the likes of Froch/Bute/Pavlik/Kessler awaited. I think he would have been very competitive at least.

A great loss to Irish boxing and boxing in general.

He was a great athlete with great potential, I think he only had 4 pro fights, against eastern Europeans so we can never know what level he would reach

I think he lost to macklin 3 times an beat degale 4 out of 6 but two of his wins were very close both in Ireland an degale won the most important two

sutherland looked a monster when he debuted and degale looked like ****, if sutherland had improved at the rate degale has then I have sutherland murdering him at this point.

Heard so many stories coming out after his last fight where he won easy but got cut and started to freak out about it and doubting his ability. Im sure the guy had a lot of demons besides that, we'll never know obviously. Terrible loss, top prospect and an all round top bloke.

Think it was to do with insurance money. Suicides can't be paid out so I guess they were trying to prove he was drugged or something.

He had a winning record against Degale. I think Lee beat him comfortably on points years ago. Such a shame that hes not around anymore.
