Agree with the rankings more or less but I reckon Frampton is better than Casey and I reckon most people would agree. Interesting that Eddie Hyland is only ranked 4th at super feather but I suppose it's justified for lack of activity. I think yez are being a bit too hard on Coyne, granted he probably isn't eligible to fight for a title but you shouldn't begrudge him for calling himelf Irish or being proud of being Irish, is he any less Irish than Micky Ward, Bobby Gunn, Jerry Quarry or Shea Neary?
well spotted, i love the quote, are they missing someone by any chance Having boiled down from light-welterweight to the Olympic lightweight limit, Cameron joins the strongest division in the women's programme, which also features the experienced Amanda Coulson and Natasha Jonas
that **** is no irishman... hes a disgrace to all that is irish:good tink there talking only about brit boxers only:good
One irish grandparent with proof (birth cert). Tyson Fury wanted to fight for an Irish title but they couldn't find the Irish birth certs of grandparents (I think!), so was thus ineligible for a shot at an Irish title.
No one is being harsh on Coyne. Good luck to him, I am sure he is proud of his Irish roots, which is admirable. But he doesnt qualify to fight for an Irish title - which Bobby Gunn and Shea Neary did, not sure if Ward or Quarry did. Its a simple matter of fact not opinion. As said above, one grandparent with birth cert - which would therefore entitle you to an Irish passport (although you dont have to take the passport out, you just have to be eligible for one)
Fra, I didnt expect you to have an opinion about him! :nut To be fair Liverpool wasnt a very nice place back then and he said that joining the British Army was something he did with immense regret. Not something I would personally have done but then again I have a cushy relatively well paid job (at the moment) and dont have to make choices like guys like him.
Macklin signed to fight Sergio Martinez at lunch time today but the fight has subsequently fallen through due to unforeseen circumstances.
Hey lads I'm on the Steve Bunce show tonight talking about the Irish Boxing Review book. It's on BBC London at 8pm apparently. I have no idea how to get that, but I'll pick it up as a podcast tomorrow. Buncey is mad about Irish boxing and of course we all want him to give it more time on his show (like he did on Setanta) so send him a message of support about today's show if you can, even if you hate me/my book/or both He had Willie Casey on a few weeks back and then tried to get Brian Magee so if you guys show him you're listening he will continue to cover it. Thanks :good
Good man Ste. People with be able to tune in if they google "BBC London Radio" and press play I also have a bit of a radio date this evening as we record the first of my monthly "Irish Boxing Segments" for ALL FM's 'Main Event Boxing Radio Show'
