He's genuinely dispised, particularly for thr Robin Reid travesty but how many of his fights were out and out rip offs and how many were just very close?

Fights against Mads Larsen,Charles Brewer and Glenn Johnson?

johnson wasn't close to being a robbery. johnson got tooled and made to look quite silly at times by ottke.

Yeah, Johnson was no match for Ottke.

The first Brewer one was maybe the most debatable, but it's been years since i watched it.

The Larsen fight was close - but no robbery.

I really have never had this contempt that so many have for Ottke..I rather admire his safety first defensive style, but I'm kinda weird in that regard in that I like guys like Ottke and Hugo Corro, Joey Maxim, Sammy Angott and ESPECIALLY the guy in my avatar...

Remember seeing the first Brewer fight and thinking Brewer was robbed but it was along time ago so my memory is certainly flawed.
Also Didn't David Starie fight Sven?

Ottke made every fight a bore with his defensive style, with neither him or his opponent landing telling blows, and Ottke always got the nod due to his home advantage. The refereeing in Ottke-Reid was terrible, Tilleman is just a garbage referee and judge in general. It's a wonder how people like this are allowed to officiate fights.

None, all those "robberies" were actually close fights which could have gone either way.

Brewer I was a close fight. Could have gone to Brewer without anyone complaining. Could also have gone to Ottke though.
    Johnson? No Way.
Larsen? Nah it was a close fight. Larsen did nothing in there, even less than Ottke. While you can make an argument for Larsen I always thought he didn´t deserve it because he just didn´t do anything but was so passive. One of the worst and most boring fights ever.
Mitchell. Same like with the Johnson fight. Mitchell more or less only won some rounds because Ottke gave away rounds when he thought he had the fight in the bag.
Some people claim Tate was robbed the first time around because they claim Ottke´s cut came from punches and not an accident and thus it should have been a TKO for Tate and not a TD for Ottke.
Reid of course but that wasn´t a robbery but either a shitty or a bribed ref. And Ottke acted disgustingly.

During this time youtube was not around and many fighters who lost abroad just claimed to have been robbed - Johnson for example - and people believed them. Then the Reid stuff happened and everybody felt reassured in their opinion.

Ottke should have been DQed in nearly every fight because his corner got the scorecards after every round and thus an unfair advantage but he wasn´t part of actual robberies despite the myth.

When Ottke was once confonted with the critic about his defensive, boring style he answered something like "I don´t fight for the people or entertainment. I fight to win without getting hurt or damaged. I don´t want to end up like the many brain damaged boxers." Slap in the face for the fans but somewhat understandable.

I had him losing Brewer I, Reid and Larsen.

Johnson fight was pretty close actually...quite possibly debatable but I thought Ottke stifled Glenn's attacks enough to nick it. Didnt remember Sven schooling him or anything.

    Just the Reid fight imo.

Also like Bodhi explanied, Tate should have been awarded the victory as well, just like Lewis was against Klit.

    Cheers for the replies!:good

Makes the picture a bit clearer. Shame there aren't that many Otkke fights on youtube for me to make up my own mind though.

I went through a bit of a Ottke marathon a few years ago to see for myself aswell...there was a couple on the tube at the time and I borrowed a couple more.

I don't suggest you ever do that though...I cant ever get that time back.
