For those who actually know about boxing I just wanted to get your thoughts. _____________________ I like two methods. Lateral movement/counter punching: JMM style (JMM/Katsidis) or Side step, turn: ala Roberto Guerrero vs. Malcolm Klassen, Casamayor vs. Katsidis The side step is easier to master ( I never did), but i think its the best way. You don't use your legs as much and after the turn theres always a opening for a counter punch depending on the guard style of the other fighter getting turned. Morales also did some turning with Pacman in their first fight. Perfect example is: Roberto Guerrero vs. Malcolm Klassen
keep him on the end of your jab, time him coming in and put punches behind the jab. Utilize your footwork and obviously bring your punches right back and hands up. Tie him up if you have to but you should really be on the outside behind an educated jab.
First you must have a good jab and of possible one he will respect (power) Second lateral movement and staying of the ropes 3rd avoid inside fighting which is his tool of hi s trade. And it takes alot of conditioning and using it wisely, remember cotto marg?
Yeah. Lateral movement takes up alot of enegry. You have to stop to punch and are always on the move. If you don't stop to punch you don't get the proper leverage on your punches. Its the easiest to do though so most fighters choose this method yet most of them fail because of the requirements. Calderon does it nicely. He also turns though. So he can do it all. Cotto and Acosta don't or aren't used to turning. Thats why I think turning is the best, but its hard as ****. You have be really skilled and focused. Casamayor did it perfectly to Katisidis.
I'm no "expert" but I will state my opinion anyways. The confidance to deal with it. Comes first and foremost. To deal with a pressure fighter you need to be able to handle the mental pressure that comes from being attacked. Perhapps a simpler way of saying it is that you need to be calm under fire. As far as strategy goes I think there are two basic ways to deal with a pressure fighter. The first is to use your jab, ant employ a hit and run strategy. Pressure fighters tend to square up a bit shorting their reach and exposing more of their body. Jab, straight, hook combos and get out. The second method would be to turn the tables on the pressure boxer. Most boxers fight in whatever style the use because that is how they are comfortable fighting. In other words take him out of his comfort zone. Put him on his back foot. Make him retreat.
i coudnt agree anymore. when i boxed this basically the style everybosy used against me since i was tall an lanky. as soon as i got there attention by connecting to there bodyi could take them from there game plan an push the nack.
Break his rythm and to frustrate him, and he will become less effective. I used to do it all the time.
Good upper body movement, jab and countering ability. If you can master the shoulder role you can stand in the pocket and counter and fustrate your opponent all night.
You don't have to necessarily exert that much energy or have particularly good footwork even to keep turning someone. Watch SNV vs Ruiz. You'll get the hang of it.
