Erik Morales vs Marcos Maidana

I don't think its a fair assumption that Maidana is weak in the body. He got up after all, and got hit by a hard-hitting prime talent right on the button. It helps Morales's chances to have a good straight to the body, but to be able to set up that shot and deliver it with precision and power at 140 after all these years makes it kind of difficult to asses as a major advantage over his opponent.

For Morales to win, he'll have to be sharp and durable- two things which he still is but nowhere near the level he used to be.

 

I was sad to see this fight made. I feel bad for Morales, actually. I believe he will be knocked out in this fight, which should never have been made. I give Morales almost zero chance in this one and think you should have been given closer to 20 to 1 odds. We are talking about an older, fairly inactive, semi-over-the-hill fighter who probably should have given it up years ago, who is fighting three weight classes higher than the 122 - 126 -130 pounds that was his best weight range, who never really was a physical bull that Maidana is, and a very strong bull at 140, who is very sharp and has proven he can war it out with the best fighters at 140 pounds. Just a very bad matchup. Don't pay to see this unless you'd like to see Morales get hurt for some reason. But then again, I could be wrong. You never know for sure in boxing, and he is a former champ with a lot of pride, skill, and experience. But that is the most I can say for him in this one.

Oh, God. The poor guy looks ten years older than he is and is well above his best weight fighting a huge puncher/ He is going to be stomped to a TKO inside six-eight, probably. Maidana got up from a terrific liver shot. That's more strong-bodied than weak-bodied, I'd think.
