    Ayala is coming forward with punches in bunches; throwing a 1-2 to the body along with lead rights to the face and those super-wide hooks that somehow are effective for him against the straight-up predictably-circling taller Gardner. Ayala is wrecking him with body shots now. Gardner slumps forward and gets beaned in the head with a right. Gardner is in some trouble. Ayala covers up and slides his feet back as Gardner lunges forward and bombs him with a 1-2. Ayala keeps smashing the body and Gardner goes down to his hands and knees. Gardner pushes himself up and Ayala immediately starts whacking away downstairs. Gardner is slumping his shoulders and dropping his elbows/forearms down to try and shield his body. Ayala keeps thumping away at his sides and Gardner is dropped with a grimace. Gardner pounds the mat in frustration and gets up in time once more. Gardner is mad and starts hooking at Ayala to keep him at bay. Time's up

    Interesting: in Gardner's only other loss, he went the same number of rounds with Vladine Biosse. No knockdowns, no stoppage.

    Yeah, he's no super middleweight though. He looked tiny with Gardner (who isn't exactly massive at 168..)
