WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch is willing to break the bank in order to bring his upcoming fight with Glen Johnson to Nottingham. Froch defends the belt against Johnson in the semi-finals of Showtime's Super Six tournament. The fight is tentative for June 4 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. According Showtime's Super Six agreements, the semi-finals must take place in the United States.
Froch has reached out to Showtime with a financial offer to move the fight. He's willing to give the network compensation in the form of 250,000 from the gate.
"I've been in touch with Showtime and talks are on-going," said Froch to the Nottingham Post. "Websites are reporting that the fight with Johnson will be in Atlantic City on June 4. It looks like that will be the date, but it is not 100 per cent certain yet. I've had my last two fights away from home and that's not fair on my fans. They are brilliant and they deserve better."
"I've boxed all over the world as an amateur and a professional and I can honestly say the Nottingham fans are the most vocal and more importantly the most passionate crowd I've ever witnessed. Hence, the amount of work I'm putting in to bring this next fight back home.
"I've spoken to Showtime, who will obviously want compensation. After all, it's an expensive business to bring a production crew over here. I've offered to pay them 250,000 dollars out of my share of the gate in Nottingham and I'm just waiting for them to get back to me. I'll be gutted if I have to fight in America, but I can't really do any more."

He also said that if the fight is over here then he thinks Sky will pick up the fight.

He might get his way. Froch-Johnson isn't that an attractive fight for American TV audiences.

All credit to Froch! and if i was in his position i'd try and do exactly the same, not all to inspiring travelling all the way to america to fight in the semi finals of the super6 infront of a couple thousand people compared to 10 or so thousand of his own much more atmospheric fans in his hometown

"Deserves" doesn't come into it though eh? If Froch had been on Sky from the start of the tourney then they may have had a chance of building this into a PPV.

    As it stands, no chance.

Johnson could be a tricky fight in America as well so can understand Froch trying to be pro-active in getting it in Nottingham.

Froch will need to be motivated to make this regulation so it's in his best interests to have it there. Lose money in the short term but at least he keeps winning, builds his profile, and capitalises later on.

Froch has done enough to ensure that this fight is both on England and on Sky. What more can the guy do?

Nice one!! To be honest. I'm not happy with Froch paying them though, but I guess that's the only way to get the damn fight here :-(

Gotta feel for Froch after seeing the accolades Khan and Haye get.
