Beltran is still doubling the jab and putting the left cross behind it. Lacierva is game enough but just getting out-fired.

Round 5

Beltran is landing some nice hooks around the side door from the outside. Lacierva is trying to force up some leaning-ladder right hands and is scrubbing Beltran's face with a couple of them. There is redness on the bridge of Beltran's nose. Nice body shots by Lacierva. They come together and push into each other, with Beltran backed up. Lacierva works his free hand down low.

I respect the skill of both guys and it isn't a terribly ugly fight as far as clinches or anything...it's just...yeah, monotonous and unhurried pace. Both have good chins and middling power. We're probably in for a 12 full rounds of more or less the same lukewarm stuff.

 

Round 6

Lacierva is popping out of a crouch with those right hands sailing up into Beltran's face, and working some nice left hooks. Lacierva winning the first half of the round as Beltran tries to pick him off from outside while circling but gets hit by the unpredictable forward bursts of Lacierva. Inexplicable switch to southpaw by Lacierva. He thinks better of it after about thirty seconds and goes back to lobbing some nice uppercuts through the middle. Beltran is circling at mid-range, jabbing, not really doing anything explicitly wrong but losing the round. Lacierva lands a BIG uppercut.

Round 7

Lacierva is now taking over. Good foot positioning, lateral movement, counter uppercuts. Jabs to the body. Lacierva doing it all. Beltran is doing more or less what he did in the first few rounds to win them...but Lacierva has stepped up his game. Beltran needs to answer and make his own adjustment. Beltran lands an uppercut on the break, unseen by ref. Lacierva gets mad and lands a big right hand in an exchange. Both working their hands on the inside. Again Lacierva goes southpaw for no reason. Pat Russell breaks up a clinch and warns Lacierva for leading with his head. Beltran tries to assert his right jab while circling. Lacierva keeps getting inside, grabbing and hitting.
