FOTY!!! Luis Concepcion vs. Hernan Marquez RBR

Hernan "Tyson" Marquez walks out to some pleasant Jalisco style mariachi.

Now here comes Luis "El Nica" Concepcion to some really smooth laid-back stuff with a lot of hand-drumming. Maybe some Calypso influence?

BTW, Concepcion's nickname means "The Nicaraguan", because his fellow Panamanians think he picked up a Nicaraguan accent (but in Nicaragua they still think he sounds Panamanian )

Wow, Concepcion looks serious during his country's anthem (which is a bit silly-sounding to be honest...wouldn't be out of place in a 1960's live action Disney movie...)

His brow couldn't be any more furrowed. :fire GRR! Serious face!!

Staredown, Concepcion still looking very serious despite having frosted & slicked-back hair.

Hmm, Marquez doesn't make eye contact.

Not really a staredown, then.

 

Round 1

Concepcion immediately comes forward throwing high jabs and slams Marquez with a right cross to the face. Again, a few moments later - Marquez ROCKED. Concepcion has big power in that hand. Concepcion pawing with the jab in Marquez's face trying to set up another big right cross. Marquez stays inside, letting Concepcion's upper arms crash into the sides of his head harmlessly. Concepcion tries to step back and hook. Marquez keeps burrowing himself inside. DOWN FROM A RIGHT HAND!!! Marquez is sitting under the bottom rope staring at the ref. He gets up. Concepcion comes on, BIG RIGHT HAND!!!!!!! ANOTHER!! MARQUEZ FIGHTS BACK!!! CONCEPCION throwing big right hands one after the other behind a steady trickle of left jabs. Hellish right hands. Marquez surviving. Thirty seconds left. Marquez circles on the outside and jabs. Concepcion just hammers him with the straight right, throwing it INCREDIBLY hard and bashing through Marquez's defenses. Marquez is slammed in the face with another big right hand just before the bell but also LANDS A COUNTER AND SCORES A KNOCKDOWN AS CONCEPCION'S GLOVE TOUCHES THE CANVAS!!

Was 10-8 Concepcion, now 9-8 Concepcion (I think? Is that right?)

 

Round 2

Marquez comes forward throwing right hooks out of the southpaw stance, with straight lefts behind it. Concepcion comes at him popping his jab and looking to land the big right. Marquez swats him away. Marquez weaves on the outside, watching Concepcion. BIG right hand through the guard by Concepcion. Marquez is throwing short 2-punch combos while backing up, a lot of them uppercuts. Concepcion is swinging hard as he comes forward, working that right hand. HUGE power in that right hand, sometimes just narrowly missing Marquez's skull. Marquez clinches. Marquez throws a wild left hook and goes down - slip. Concepcion touches gloves with him, and then gets back to stalking with his jab. Exchange, Marquez lands nice rights and a left hook that ROCKS CONCEPCION!!!! MARQUEZ GETTING HIT TOO!!! CONCEPCION GOES CRAZY WITH A MULTITUDE OF PUNCHES, BATTERING MARQUEZ AGAINST THE ROPES!!! MARQUEZ DOWN!!!! RULED A SLIP!!!!

NICE PAIR OF OPENING ROUNDS!!!!
