just on qawi's height, it's amazing how far he got and the style he was able to fight in when necessary considering the HUGE disadvantage he was under. qawi could be a boxer when he had to, despite his ringname, and you wonder how good he could have been had he stayed clean

 

I would disagree about the Sutherland fight. He did look a bit shaky for the first couple rounds and got cut bad as I recall, but after that I thought he settled into a very good technical rhythm and controlled the fight thereafter, against a guy who had a speedy and troublesome style. From a technical standpoint at least, I actually thought that was one of Saad's better performances.

Agreed that he did look lackluster against Martin, but Martin was tough to look good against too, given the way he mugged and mauled on the inside.

 

Sadd wasn't Sadd against Qawi...But it really didn't matter IMO...Qawi is a terrible style/stature for Sadd to handle.

 

Saad was a terrific offensive machine with an incredible heart but I believe Qwai was a better fighter .. however, if a prime Saad it him hard early it might be a different fight ..

 

I do frank Saad Muhammad over Qawi personally. In addition to his title defenses he had the very solid pre-title resume beating Yaqui Lopez, Marvin Johnson, Mate Parlov, Marvin Camel, and Billy Douglas which is very solid. On an irrelevant note, Saad Muhammad could have easily added to his resume by fighting Ahmuda, Galindez, Burnett, and Rossman during or near his prime. All available opponents who could have further solidified his position.

 

Noone with a mere moeity of his marbles believes Saad was even marginally prime against Qawi. If they believe otherwise, like My2Sense, they're obviously MASSIVELY gay.

 

So no one believes he was in his prime only a year earlier against Lopez and Mwale? :roll:

NO, he managed to catch Matthew at the right time, though Dwight would still probably give Saad hell at any other time of his career.

Um, yes........ Qawi was better all around...... Hard to deal with, yet true...... Saad M. was a warrior who was once great at 175; Qawi was highly skilled and lethal between 175 to 190 pounds........... Saad M. never proved jack**** at 190........ Qawi is supreme...

I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that Matthew Saad Muhammad was a little removed from his prime by the time he met up with Qawi.I mean,a man can't come out of the type of battles that he did completely unscathed.We would have to assume that those wars left some type of permanent mark - a mark that could never be wiped away.I would say,however,that it's a cheap move and a complete cop-out to diminish Qawi's victories on the basis that you happen to think Saad wasn't in his prime anymore.


And I would hope nobody is truly delusional enough to believe that Qawi wouldn't have dished out the same type of pasting at any point in Saad's career.He was always a better fighter than Saad.Better record at 175? No.But a better fighter? Absolutely.

 

I think Qawi would have won on a prime for prime basis. Would have gone to the cards.

 

Qwai beat Franklin who was clearly on his down side .. his title defenses were getting dicier ... he was getting hit more and more often ... he was basically like a gun running out of bullets ... put the Qwai who beat him v.s. the Saad who won the title from Johnson, who knows but it would have been a hell of a fight ...
