Ok I know Some might wonder what i'm thinking here but spinks still had legitimate power at heavyweight as he proved against cooney and joe louis chin wasnt imprenable as he was floored by two ton tony galento and braddock. Who takes it? My moneys on Spinks?
Joe Louis would win it, by KO. I think Spinks might give him a tough fight. But I thought the same thing when he faced Tyson too.
Tyson being alot faster and harder hitting than joe louis swarmed spinks. Louis wouldnt swarm spinks. Thats y i think spinks could outbox him or maybe even ko him?
h2h louis is a monster. spinks is certainly awkward, but so was arturo godoy. I think his movement, respectful (but hardly stellar) power at heavyweight and generalship would get him deep into the fight. but every time he's within punching distance, louis is hurting him. he'd have trouble no doubt and i'm sure spinks would keep it well on the outside and try to jab him, much as he did against qawi. however, louis may be the best finisher in heavyweight history and once he hurts spinks he ends it Louis KO 14
Spinks could have been very competitive with some of the less bullish Heayweights in my opinion, but I'm not prepared to favour him over Louis here. One punch could end it just as it did with Tyson.
louis by ko , spinks could be as already said awkward but louis would connect at some point and louis was a hell of a finisher
I understand why you've made this thread, I don't think it's the worst thing i've ever heard. But you're basically betting on Spinks not getting hit. I wouldn't even back Spinks over 10, personally.
Louis somtimes did jump his oponents early when it suited him e.g. Schmeling II, Lewis, Baer II. In that scenario I suspect it would end verry much the same way as those fights. Outside of that, I do not see many scenario's for Spinks winning. Louis was such a good finisher that he could let you slip through the net several times and he would still catch up withg you eventualy. Billy Conn famously had the title for 13 rounds and still couldn't hold on to it. In order to score a knockout himself, Spinks would have to be landing a lot on Louis over a duration of many rounds. Doing that is going to present Louis with the chances he needs to spring the trap. I don't think that Spinks hit as hard as Max Schmeling either, which makes exchanges with Louis less advisable.
A lot of Louis aficianado's cite the first Max Baer fight or the second Buddy Baer fight as his best performence. Nat Fleischer named the John Henry Lewis fight. If you take context into account, then beating Walcott while well past his prime rates respect.
A. There is room for argument on that point. B. Walcott certainly should not have got the decision in their second fight.
