This is not true a good % of blacks i know (outside the buisness) are at least Casual fans..... As for whites its very rare i meet one that know anything about boxing outside of Tyson,Delahoya,Pac and Mayweather.


This is not even close IMO % wise almost as many Black fight fans as Latinos.

Why do you think that is? UFC and boxing are both combat sports, but they don't even mess with boxing. I don't see anyone embrace UFC the way whites do. They were the immediate fans after it blew up.

 

I think it has to do with how wrestling is very big in schools there and so white people who wrestled now have a sport to follow. Boxing isnt entirely dead either, it's just that they lean towards the UFC because it packages itself so well and clearly covets the 'douchebag tapout wearing t-shirt bros' market with great affect. It seems like that market previous didn't have a product specifically for them, now they do . Bit of joking aside, it's mostly marketing thing and that people are scared to let their kids box (just like in time they'll probably scared to let them play football) if you're in the middle class and white, but wrestling is fair game. Wrestling transitions to MMA, boxing generally doesn't.

Im not sure what YOUR opinion of a Great Black Hope, but i would hope to think its someone with even a shred of good character, one that a group of people can gather hope & strength from, because he inspires them. Does that sound reasonable?

Also when I say 'ethnic' community, I mean like there are tons of boxing fans in the Polish community in Chicago and the others in the country, as well as Armenians, Ukrainians, and other communities like that.

 

True at my gym i hear whites regularly talking about UFC and never boxing... Hell even young Latinos are more into UFC.. Most Blacks i know (young and Old) know at least a little bit about boxing, although its obvious participation is at an all time low... THats the only reason u see eastern euros at the top,.... Outside of the Klitchkos, Povetkin,Chaguev,Helinus,Boystov and Adamek(at hw) would be 2nd and 3rd tier fighters if not for the NFL,NBA and tougher prison sentences.


PS Adamek is a good fighter but at heavyweight ordinary.. In the 90s he might not even crack the top 10.

 

no, the black community WERE NOT ACCEPTING of Jack Johnson during his time because of how he literally did anything he wanted. They definitely weren't looking up or aspiring to be like him during his time.

BUT he was a black man who wasn't afraid to do as he pleased, so in the long run he was a symbol of freedom for the colored man. Beating up all the media creation white boys they sent as hitmen after him helps too.

Shame Kelvin Price and Amir Mansour are not 10 years younger as they look to have a bit of talent.
