Sam Peter or 'What a hype can do'

Because he is one of the best wins for both brothers.

 

There's no need to trash Sam, he always came to fight and i enjoy watching him. His best bet is to re-evaluate his career and take a step down in competition.

 

So was Ruiz's. That's why he HAD to cheat to "win" at the world class level.:yep

 

A fat crude Caveman with big raw power & an overrated chin.

But he did have heart & came to fight...

 

In the first fight Vlad destroyed that concrete chin after that Peter was never the same.

 

ruiz was'nt the most skilled, but he made the most of his career.
he beat evander holyfield and won the heavyweight title a few times, in fact you could say given what ruiz had, he over achieved. not many fighters have done more with less skills, than john ruiz has.

 

He did it by violating the rules against excessive holding - and worse, faking low blows in several fights including his tainted "victory" against Holyfield. That makes it pretty damn illegitimate if you value fair play, decency and sportsmanship. Say what you will about Peter - but at least he fought within the rules, for the most part.

 

The fact that a fighter as horribly crude as Sam Peter could ever reach #2 in the Ring rankings shows how bad the division is aside from the Klitschko's. Peter entertained me because he had good power, took a fantastic shot once upon a time, and swung for the fences....and got hit a ton....and he did manage to win a belt, so props to him - he did well for himself. But his time is up. He's done. He'll be a journeyman for the remainder of his career. One who gets put on his back when he steps it up against guys who can punch a bit. I never like to see fighters out cold, so I'd prefer if he'd just retire and enjoy his life after boxing and his $. At the very most....match him up against other shot commodities like Rahman, Holyfield, Barrett, McCall, Tua, etc...or guys like Oquendo/Walker.

Bottom line is that he never had the drive to get better or the drive to get his ass in shape consistently. That can be said for too many hw's now.

The reason why his ability to take a punch diminished is because of the punishment he had to take against Wladimir in the first fight. It just went downhill from there, it was amazing he was able to continue taking punches and win a world title after that fight. Then comes the Vitali fight and Wladimir rematch which pretty much ended his career right there. Now we have this KO. If he was too overhyped he wouldn't have been the betting underdog going in this fight, it was known he is done with yet still tried but credit has to be given to his opponent.

After David China Chin fought and beat him Ruiz became pretty good Boxer.

He is and was always a Trash. might be the best win for China Chin thou I give you brits that but that's not saying much thou:yep

Good points, but one also had to keep in mind:
2) without illegal punches, the fight would be rather one-sided... like most of Wlad's defences
3) in retrospect, one may see it was pretty shot Toney - he needed judges and a point deduction to get a SD over Oquendo, the only semi-decent opponent he fought afterwards.
4) Maskaev has been knocked out quite a number of times even in his prime, and even by heavy underdogs like Corey Sanders.

 

Its called post concussion syndrome. The more times you are knocked out, the more easily you are knocked out.

Peter should either dedicate himself to learning new skills, or quit.

I was never a Sam Peter fan... but you gotta admit the guy sure accomplished a hell of lot in boxing considering he has all the skill of a ******ed silver-back.
