I want to start off and say I am not bashing Hoost here, HE WAS A ALL TIME GREAT FIGHTER. But where do you rank him? Ernesto hoost has been viewed as one of the best kickboxers in history, many say he was the best. 4 time K-1 champ is a major accomplishment, but he traded wins and losses with too many fighters example: Jerome LaBanner, Rick Rufus, Andy Hug, ect. Hoost got dominated at his best by too many fighters. And he lost to Sapp for god sakes! bad strategy or not he lost twice to Sapp. I would also say Rob Kaman and Branko Cikatić rank higher as kickboxers and not simply because they both destroyed Hoost twice (well maybe Cikatic but Rob Kaman is better even without ever fighting Hoost) If you compare Hoost to a current great Andy Souwer, I would say Souwer was the better Kickboxer as well. How do you see Ernesto Hoost? Where do you rank him p4p? Thoughts?
Actual kickboxing as a whole p4p be that K1 and Muay thai rules.. Then i probably wouldnt of had him in top 3 were i voted..top 10..
The thing that made K-1 popular back in its prime was that the top 5-10 HW in the world would beat each other up on a consistent basis. Hoost just happened to be one of the best. Top 3 HW and top 10 all time p4p.
Well if you consider K-1 only (from 1993 on ), I'd rank him on N°1 spot. But I have to admit the guys mentioned were before my time. I think Hoost had a great drive, never lost his motivation, was great tactical, had a great technique, good wo handed skills, great kicks and great defense. So basically for me he was simply the most complete fighter ever - all the skills he had were high level. It's true he had some losses ( Cikatic twice and he never avenged those ) that remain some black spots on his record, but all the fighters have losses like that. Peter Aerts lost to Abidi and Leko for instance. The Sapp fights; well Sapp was a monster back then. With brutal power you can make skills look non existant. That's what happend in the first encounter. He also had a skin disease back then what caused him to bleed excessively. Their second fight was a huge tactical mistake from him. He could and should have sticked to kicking Sapp and if he would have done that, he would have won. Instead he wanted ti fight "man to man" and went trading punches with Sapp and paid the price. I'd rank Hoost the GOAT over all the other guys, he seemed to be the one to come out on top when the competition was at it's best (despite his 4th GP win being pure luck). I'd rank the top 5 of all time something like Hoost Semmy Aerts Bonjasky Hug or Lebanner
