The best part? There is very little overlap (possibly even none) between them! :happy

For those up to it, this should be a very rewarding and full day of action. The Japanese card is well worth staying up or waking up early for (depending on where you live and how much you need to get done during the day on Friday).

Lemieux-Rubio will not conflict with the ShoBox triple-header, as long as you watch the live broadcast on ESPN3.com! If you are unable to catch the live broadcast, you will have to choose as the replay on ESPN2 will run at the exact same time as the triple-header (but by then you will likely have been exposed to Lemieux-Rubio spoilers anyway).

As for the triple-header, it could be a nice mix of knockouts and competitive slugfests going the distance. Marcus Johnson is a big hitter at 168, and Dyah Davis comes to fight (sometimes to his detriment). Willie Nelson is gaining a reputation as a fearsome 147lb puncher and has been impressing on undercards looking to make the big leap. O'Connor and Bracero have a combined 4 stoppages in 28 fights, so lean towards the over 7.5 rounds bet there...but these aren't cutie-pies.

Finally, undefeated GBP prospect Jesse Vargas graduates from the Cristian Favela type (sturdy journeymen) to a former world champ in the much-declined Vivian Harris. Can "Vicious Vivian" dial back the clock and get back in the winning column? He has the skills and the power to get it done...what's unclear is whether he has the reflexes or the desire to compete at this level anymore. This card will probably have to wait to be watched on DVR after the ShoBox triple-header (or vice versa) as they will most likely overlap being staggered apart by only half an hour. The best case scenario is that we get an unlikely trio of very fast knockouts on Showtime, freeing up our remotes to surf over to Telefutura and catch the intriguing generational clash.

 

Nishioka and Hasegawa on the same day...cool. Hope they do well.

 

Looking forward to seeing how Lemieux and Vargas fare in their toughest pro fights to date (on paper anyway)

I figured he'd be the most popular choice in the poll with people just hastily clicking because of his stunning KO power...but honestly that has the makings of a quick blowout with only instant gratification but over before it can even get that interesting. My feeling is that if people were giving it another moment's thought they might realize that Hasegawa-Gonzalez is extremely competitive on paper and could be a FOTY candidate (and also is more significant, being for the legendary "green belt" itself and not just an eliminator).

Of course, Rubio could surprise a lot of people and give Lemieux hell. He's got experience and toughness in spades.

The japan card is really good! but i have been following Lemieux since his first pro fight , read every french article about him etc... We got Bute and Pascal here but Lemieux his born in Canada and draw a lot of attention and this fight will tell us a lot about his future ! HBO want to sign him , Showtime ask him to don't sign anything before talking to them etc...

BTW, that projected 6am start time for the Japanese card might not be accurate. :think

Last time Hasegawa and Aoh fought on a double-header together, the Aoh-Tajbert fight was over by 5:30 (putting the start time at like 4:40am) and Hasegawa-Burgos started before 6am.

It's hard to imagine they'd have an entire triple-header start later than the second half of double-header started last time out...

Maybe that's a live broadcast start time for Hasegawa-Gonzalez, and the other two title fights will be shown afterward on delay. I'll try to find out for sure and report back..
