Yeah, we have to disagree. McCallum was very smooth when slipping and ducking, always on balance and never making any exagerrated movements. Balance, economy and accuracy. Precisely what technical head movement is all about.

He head good reflexes - otherwise he wouldn't have been able to avoid so many punches while staying in the pocket - but they weren't on the level of those of prime Duran, Leonard or Benitez (and far from those of Roy Jones, of course). His hand- and footspeed was nothing special at all. Most of the top guys at JMW and MW at the time had faster hands and feet than him.

Honestly I like Roberto. Great personality, which I think elevated him as well as Ali. Great personalities get guys noticed more. I just do not see how people rate him 1-5 all time great without many wins over greats. The only great he beat was Ray. Curry had a weakness in him which Honeyghan exposed. Many people blame the weight on that night, but Duran had a way of exploiting a weakness and his chin was solid. I think he would beat Curry in a tough fight for him early, but still Roberto did lose to all the fab 4. My question was what made him ranked 1-5 ATG ever? That does not mean I do not like him, it just means I do not see how the ranking can be made.

I don't know if I agree with what you say about most guys had faster hands than him. Feet yeah. Mike sometimes looked like a plodder, but his hand speed was nice and that is how he got many guys in trouble. Mike had an awkward style. He was in front of guys a lot of the time, but he used his positioning to counter them and they never could really hit him clean-not because he had great defense, but because he beat most guys to the punch. His defense for the right hand was never great. And how many of them had a jab like Thomas Hearns? or a great southpaw like Hagler? Certainly Kalule was not a great southpaw. The Curry knockout does not look like a fast punch, but to get that off in the way Mike did was because he had fast hands. Most guys couldn't have gotten that punch off on time, regardless of Donald not seeing it.

I agree in a way, but Curry had a softness to him the fab 4 did not. Duran would probably look foolish at times with Curry early, but if Duran could stay in there and not give up mentally, he could have come on and landed the right hand when Donald posed, as he did sometimes. Duran lost to guys like Benitez and Leonard who could box and move the whole 15 rounds and enjoy it. Donald was too flat footed at times to not get hit by Duran. Hearns was just a case where Tommy was too fast and sharp at 154. Curry could not have duplicated the Hearns fight and Duran would not go down with one punch like McCrory did.

I know Tommy is 78 inches. one thing about one of Mike's opponents. Many people thought that since Mike beat Milton, he could beat Tommy. Tommy was physically stronger than Milt and had a better right, and Milt's reach was surprisingly only 73 inches if I am correct. Hearns was 78.. 5 inch difference.
