I guess some people on the general forum would have called it an event win for Walcott.

If Michael Spinks didn't have his knees problems then he may have gotten even further , and who knows the answer in this question but the way we know him I believe Louis would have managed a stoppage over him inside 12 . I think Spinks' power was not enough even to trouble Louis. Cooney was simply a big piece of fat dry ****. And we do know the color of dry **** , don't we ?

It would n't surprise me if Louis gets the job done as quickly as Mike Tyson did.

If Louis comes out as quickly as he did in the second Max Schmelling fight,Spinks goes out in one.

You know Michael Spinks better than Eddie Futch (R.I.P) do you? :huh

Futch denied Spinks was nervous? I think too much is made of it anyhow. Spinks could have been the most confident fighter on the planet, dancing to the ring, and he still would have got flattened. Tyson's fists spelled the end, not Spicks confidence or lack of.

Futch said Spinks wasn't intimidated, & that he was KO'd quickly due to not implementing his jab & move strategy quick enough.

Totally agree, the raging fury of a Peak Tyson, told by his trainer than his $23million purse was bet on a 1st round KO (for motivation, Rooney didn't really, but he should've done!) is a devestating proposition as he lets those timed nukes detonate. :scaredas:

Louis isn't Tyson. He doesn't have his power or anything close to his movement speed. Luois was a plodder, Spinks would have a good chance of taking this fight.

movement, no. louis was a much more conservative mover but more effective at cutting the ring off. still, he didn't have tyson's foot speed

power is at least comparable. technique easily to louis but tyson may have a an edge in raw power. still the difference is so minimal as to render it irrelevant

I disagree. I think Tyson has a substantial power advantage, not by a huge margin, but enough. Joe had nice clean punching technique and threw combinations beautifully, but i think there are a lot of fighters with more raw power.

His footwork would be a very big problem head to head against certain fighters, Spinks is getting a little bit sold short here.

I never bought into that "Spinks looked scared" thing. I don't know, he just looked like Spinks to me. Ringsiders like to embellish things after the event, and it becomes part of the legend. "We could all sense the fear coming off Spinks" "It was like waiting for an execution" etc. etc.
When really they didn't know what was about to happen.

Spinks looked like he was fighting for a minute or so - without any success - but the way he flopped so readily was what really made him look "scared".
It's a shame and somewhat strange that all those TV cameras couldn't produce a nice clear view of the finishing punch.
People say it was a right uppercut but I didn't see any upward follow-through on it, looked like a half-way punch at best, a short stunning right. Spinks' punch resistance left something to be desired, methinks. He folded easily.
