The opponent isn't even in the same ballpark as Hasegawa in style or class, obviously - and Jhonny did seem a little put off by the awkwardness and did take some pretty bad swings for strikes, but MAN! That left hook might be pound for pound one of the most powerful in all of professional boxing.

When he doubles it from head to body, it's a lethal weapon. Hozumi needs to make avoiding that priority #1. It isn't even just a simple matter of dictating the range, either - because Jhonny is so long and can get the hook off with a deceptively quick release after lobbing out a few slow ones to lull his prey (the old Foreman trick).

 

Wow, no love for Jesse Vargas vs. Vivian Harris? Obviously freddy-wak hasn't voted yet. :yep

A lot of people might not realize just how competitive this one could be, automatically just writing Harris off as a shot no-hoper being fed to a hot prospect.

Know this: Vargas got beaten up and received a rather deplorable gift decision over Cristian Favela just six weeks ago. :deal

I like Favela; he's one of my favorite journeymen. The fact is, he had a losing record (28 wins in 66 tries before meeting Vargas - a 42% percentage of victory) and he schooled Vargas.

Setting aside the concerns raised in that bout over whether Vargas is truly ready to step up his competition level, it's quite possible that he hasn't even recovered from that physical beating yet in such a short time.

Harris might have more chance here than people think. OR, he might get KTFO in a single round.

Very intriguing stuff.

 

Question for the majority:

Is what you're excited about specifically the idea of Lemieux scoring another first-round knockout, or the idea of Rubio maybe lasting a while and giving him a tough test and some valuable rounds experience with a veteran?

...or is it the box of chocolates effect? (not knowing which to expect)

 

I actually don't even see there being that many spells of inertia.

Hasegawa was more careful against Burgos, but not to the point of being overly negative. That was still a cracking fight.

Besides..even if he did try to keep it a tactical outside game, Gonzalez would need to slake his thirst for body-punching before too long and be right on him in a hurry.

Still not sure if all three championship fights will be aired live as of the 6am broadcast start, though. :think

BTW, I'm getting nervous about this supposed live broadcast on ESPN3 for Lemieux-Rubio. :think

There is no boxing listed on the ESPN3.com schedule of upcoming events for Friday, April 8th.

That doesn't necessarily mean it isn't happening; sometimes their schedule isn't updated very well and things only show up the day of the event (or as close as an hour before).

I've asked Dan Rafael to confirm whether or not it's going to air as planned. Hopefully it is, and we don't have to wait for it on delay at 11pm on ESPN2. :twisted:
