Anyway, those were the bum-of-the-month fighters. One fighter a month, it ran for 7 months, and Louis beat them all. There were other challengers Louis fought outside of the bum-a-month tour who were of dubious quality. For example, Johnny Paycheck, Jack Roper, perhaps Harry Thomas. Galento was a "bum" in the sense that he lived a bad lifestyle for a fighter : cigars, beer, hot dogs, spaghetti, and more beer !

tyson may be the most knowledgeble fighter who ever lived. probably not the wisest, but he knew his facts, and he has been known to offer a fair bit of insight too.

Upon the conclusion of his career, he was widely hailed by the sporting press as a highly competent historian, and absolutely could have made a living doing that during his retirement if it had remained a mainstream sport, and his own life and persona hadn't turned into such a distracting spectacle. Early on, I thought his post competition career was already laid out. ESPN could do worse than hiring him on as the custodian of their film library.

It dosn't necesarily follow that one of the greatest talent's of all time will come allong in a strong era. Somtimes the boxing gods have a sick sense of humour and they decide to put a T rex in an era where the next most dangerous predator is the size of a wolf.
