I won't argue I can understand from your point of view. Not many fighters with Nelson's limited pro experience can really achieve what he did. I'm also a fan of Nelson and perhaps from his fight with Sanchez he learned to not make a war out of things and he did change his style to a more technical style. But I'd have to disagree there as well. I don't believe even with Azumah's latter style that he used vs Fenech, Whitaker, Ruelas, Leija, etc or above 126 would of suited him in a rematch with Sanchez. That aggressive style that he used vs Sanchez and Gomez might of proved more successful. I really doubt he would outbox Sanchez. And I was comparing Nelson to Gamboa in the sense that were brought up very fast and fighting for a championship in a short amount of time.

I'm not suggesting Nelson would have ever defeated Sanchez.

I know, but your giving Sweet Pea, Fenech, and Leija more credit for fighting the latter version of Azumah, post Sanchez, which like I said, I've got no problem with that, because like you said, he was probably at his best. Azumah was knocking pros out even at 39. I'll just take the man's word for it when he mentioned Sanchez at his best opponent. It really seemed Nelson would of been champ that night if he was fighting anyone that wasn't Sanchez, maybe with the exception of a Pedroza. He was punching with bad intentions that night and very cagey.

Addie what are you 21 yrs old?? YOu dont know wth your talking about,, Gomez not being a great win??? WTF Gomez was thought of as arguably the best pfp fighter (along with SRL) at the time.. Everyone i mean almost everyone thought Gomez was gonna beat Sanchez, who already was highlly though of after destroying Danny Lopez.

As for Azumah well he is one of those few (like A vargas) who already was an elite world class fighter at 13 fights... In his fights after Sanchez he was destroying world class contenders like Irving Mitchell,Collazo and 4 or 5 fights later beating Gomez.. I know ive had this out with you and the youtube generation already Addie..... But someday you wil l know that being a fan or watching these fights when it happened gives you a better grasp of knowing what was really going on back then, you have no idea how big that win was... It really irks me to hear kiddie fans giving strong opinions on guesses or something they might have heard from someone who is probably the same age as them... Ill bet you heard this stuff from some of the other you tube generation kiddies huh?

Learn to use proper grammar and we'll talk. You've been on this Earth far longer than I and yet you still type like a 10 year old.

Side note, I would have gladly addressed all of your points like a mature adult had you not gotten personal and questioned by credibility. Making measured and controlled posts isn't one of your strong points.

Great question. It's actually the majority that seems to rank JMM over those two now. Our fellow posters must hold the likes of Juan Diaz and Michael Katsidis in super high regard.

Whatever since you have no leg to stand on when it comes to my comment you now want to turn this into English Literature class? What a weak ass comeback.

What else am I supposed to say to someone as closed off as you? You turn your nose up at anyone who isn't old enough to have been around for the likes of Salvador Sanchez and Julio Cesar Chavez. You ridicule those who take an active interest in learning about the sports history by turning to great learning tools like youtube. This is above you, apparently.

More to the point, you'd have noticed I actually withdrew some of my comments before you even got involved. I acknowledged that the Gomez win was a "great" one, it was primarily the Nelson victory I felt needed to be put in perspective. Your ramblings about him already being a world class operator mirrors pretty much everything I've already said, but if you're honestly trying to tell me he was at his best in 1982 then you are in-denial.

Take it down a few notches and we can talk Boxing, A.

I personally have Barrera and Morales comfortably ahead of JMM. I think Boxing fans as a whole are quite fickle.

I dont mean do try and ridicule you , i just get heated when i hear a relative newb to boxing try and take away or diminish the accomplishments of a legend like Salvador Sanchez, when i feel they dont have a grasp of how great he was considered in his short time here.... Azumah might not have been as schooled in the boxing skills dept ,but that wouldnt havve made a difference as he never would havve out boxed Sanchez... His best chances would have been the type of aggressive punching style in which he fought and he wouldnt have ever done any,,,... better with that approach.... That being said i know your a student of the game and pretty knowledgeable for being such a newb.

I have no problem being "schooled' as it were on any subject regarding Boxing. Especially not by someone who was there to see it all unfold as you were, Anarci. What I do have a problem with and what I take offence to is when you are so heavy handed with your replies. "Youtube generation". Do you think that's where I watch all of the footage? Dude, I've invested a lot of money on fight film. A lot of time watching it. It's better to do that than be completely ignorant to past eras. They are the fans you should be resenting.

I realized fairly quickly that I was selling the Gomez win short and that is why I withdrew my initial comment and acknowledged it was a great win.

    And regarding Nelson...

You will also notice that I later clarified that I was not suggesting any version of Nelson would have defeated Sanchez. I draw comparisons between this victory and Roy Jones over Hopkins. Bhop was obviously still a great fighter in '94, but he was relatively green compared to what he would become. Jones was world class at the beginning, he had an extensive amateur pedigree whereas Hopkins couldn't compete in that regard.

I said all of this even before you got involved, Anarci. You could have took the time to read it and realised that I wasn't trying to discredit Sanchez in any way shape or form. I was a little overzealous with my initial post, but I think I did an adequate job at correcting any throwaway comments I might have made.

How would a 13-0 Nelson do against the best versions of MAB, EM, and JMM in your opinion?
