But if he did what you rate him as number 1? I think if he can beat Bradley or Kahn i would say he has done enough to pass Barrera,Morales.

How do you think hed do against Manny at a catch weight of 140? I think he beat Manny the first 2 times but dont think hed do it now.

I don't think Marquez has the capacity to surpass Chavez. Look at what JCC achieved, the number of title defences he made. A single solitary victory, unless its against Carl Froch, isn't going to make up the ground. Not for me.

I agree. If he won a title at 140lbs against those guys, he'd surpass MAB and EM.

I think Manny destroys him. I can't look past how Katsidis and Diaz both hurt him at 135lbs. How does he expect to weather Pacquiao's best?

Well he did it before i mean even early in his career he was hitting the deck.. I was at one of his fights with journeyman Daryl Pinckney who dropped him hard ... Seems to be a regular think with Marquez.. IMO he still beat Pac the first 2 times only the knockdowns are what made the difference...and actually only officially.I had him by 2 points in the 2nd fight the first i forgot but i know i had him winning that one too.

I hear what you mean though Manny seems to have improved and JMM seems like hes slowed down a notch.

Cheers for that. My knowledge of 105 and 108 isn't as deep as I would like it to be. I've believed that Lopez would beat both Carbajal and Gonzalez ever since I started to look a bit more at Lopez. The fact he just didn't face them both and left them to beat lumps out of each other was what always surprised me when I realised just how good Lopez actually was.

Carbajal is one fighter that I really enjoy watching. The guy was skilled and that shines through in his fight, although his power (and his realisation that he hits like freight train) seem to effect his style. None the less the guy is brilliant to watch and has some nice looking KO's. I guess that makes me overrated Carbajal a fair bit, and then in turn overrating his twice conqueror.

He was a really exciting fighter, and I think he's actually underrated at 108lbs. If you compare the level of competition he fought at LFW compared to the other outstanding champions, he fares very, very well. Look at some of the combinations he puts together in this video. The way he delivers his power shots was almost reminiscent of an Arguello in my opinion. De La Hoya made the same analogy in the commentary box once. It's how he follows through with his right hand. He punches "through" the opponents. Great fighter.

I think it has to do more with JMM's 2 fights with Pacman that have him in such a high regard, not so much his fights with Diaz or Katsidis, with all due respect to those guys. Many think including myself think he did enough to win both. A draw in the first, fair enough. In the rematch, I think JMM finally pulled it off. To be honest I thought they might of given them another draw, which at the least would of been fair, but it didn't happen that way. From 126-135 I consider Pacman and JMM as equals.

None of the decisions were unfair, JMM was just a little unlucky not to get the verdict at least once. Both incredibly close fights, two fights that could have conceivably been scored for either man. Ultimately, he is 0-1-1.

MAB could have been 3-0-0 against EM, just as easily.

The Arguello comparison is a good one. The way he was packing leverage into his punches was scary, hard to believe someone at that weight was throwing punches that hard, but it's too be expected when he's throwing that left hook perfectly and getting his weight behind the right hand while fully extending it. The de la Hoya analogy seems spot on, put it perfectly. P4P one of the hardest punchers I've seen, that why I've always assigned to the idea that Gonzalez must have been a truly great fighter to win two fights against Carbajal when Gonzalez didn't have the best chin out there and did get hit a decent amount.

The video is one of my favourite highlights, lots of footage that clearly captures the ferocity behind his shots, and as you say the way he puts the combinations together. I mean, he is by no means as fluid as Barrera but those shots are strung together well and I love the way he double up his punches, one to the body one to the head whether its with his right or left.

Any idea who the guy is who he (for lack of a better word) abuses at 3:06? Those have to be some of the best knockdowns I've ever seen.

The majority do I guess. But you have guys like Sanchez who is a popular choice for best and the occasional call for the truly brilliant Ruben Olivares.

Gonzalez was a great fighter as well, make no mistake about it, but he got on his bike in the rematches. That's how he won the fights, although the second decision was somewhat debatable. At least in my opinion. Two great fighters, but Carbajal had a relatively short prime. It effectively ended by '93.

Thanks. I have more footage now...I should make a new one.

Robinson Cuesta. The full fight is on YT.
