I remember a story that Kevin McBride was going to get the fight but Danny was willing to do it for less money. The Tyson people thought Danny had a good enough record but with the loss to Julius Francis thought it was a safe fight
i remember when i flew back and bravo had a one off show about danny beating tyson.. Did danny make the back headlines of the tabloids?
Oh please. Danny fought the perfect fight, once Tyson saw he wasn't shitting himself and was going to fight back he didn't want to know. Mike at that stage didn't really have his heart in it, but take nothing away from Danny who was fighting away from home and was a huge underdog.
It was on the cards. Vitali had his heart set on fighting Mike but after Danny won it wouldn't have been credible.
That was the idea. I'm glad for Williams beating Tyson and it was a decent fight, but it's a shame for Vitali. Even a past prime Tyson would have been better for his resume than Williams coming off a win against Tyson Vitali would have put a horrendous beating on Tyson at that point. Imagine the build up to that aswell? Media events, Klitschko-Tyson staredown etc. It would have been priceless :verysad
Semtex is a monster, best left hook in MMA the torque he gets on it is sick. Best power lb forlb might be pushing it flea with Rampage, JDS, Velasquez, Thiago Alves etc about but he's up there. Daley-Diaz is a sweet fight. Williams choice as opponent did come out of left field at the time, only stopped once prior though a decent brit who'd look a decent stepping stone back to bigger paydays for Mike. Oops.
Tyson chose & wanted give his fellow moslem brother Danny Williams a payday just like he did Clifford Etienne in the fight before. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxIyc12M_Cg[/ame]
Williams and Tyson's paths might have even crossed years earlier. Williams was supposed to have fought Tim Witherspoon in Copenhagen on the undercard of the ultimately rescheduled Tyson vs Nielsen fight in September 2001. Frank Warren had also been lobbying the WBO for Williams to be made mandatory challenger for Wladimir Klitschko. Bernard Palle and Warren never came to an agreement for Williams to fight Witherspoon on the Tyson undercard and his shot at Wlad never materialised. Had Williams beaten Witherspoon on the Tyson Nielsen undercard in October 2001, who knows how things might have panned out for Danny?
Many referees would have stopped it in the 1st or 2nd round when it looked like Danny was out on his feet...
