Stopped by two of the biggest punchers in the sport today doesn't mean he has a glass chin...

Wasn't to long ago Hasegawa was touted as one of best champions and looking to have such a promising future. 2 big punches in the last year have changed his career landscape bigtime. Gonna be a long road back...can deffo become champion again though.

 

Would love to see him drop down in weight and take on Nishioka. But I think he definitely needs to drop down to super bantamweight as he is seemingly too small for featherweight.

 

Yeah i think that's for the best Kos. It's a shame....i'm sure he will be back...i think he jumped up in weight to soon. Time to get back to his better weight and put things right.

 

thing is though mate that is two bad stoppages relatively close together, it won't do his health any good or his ability to take a clean punch.

I remember Manny steward's comments about the same thing happen to Roy Jones.

Nishioka is a tremendous finisher.

 

But as said, they've came against two big punchers. If he was getting stopped by a Glen Johnson-type fighter or taking a sustained beating, then I would worry about him. And it's not like a drastic drop down in weight from feather to super bantam where his punch resistance would be diminished because of it.

And he has looked good in both defeats, so I think he should at the very least give it another try.

He seemed durable as **** against Burgos, he also seemed better than advertised, this may be 'circle logic' (is that what it's called?) but I'm very surprised by the outcome today.

If he can make it, Nishioka, Vasquez Jr would be the best option for him now. Gonzalez is decent but no great shakes, I would say Hozumis featherweight potential looks very slim now.

Is it me or is Hasegawa fairly reckless in the ring? He was constantly in punching range with Gonzalez who's a heavier hiter than HH at featherweight.
Perhaps a more cautious approach? Or is he simply to small?

 

I feel you misread the action.

Gonzalez needs some space to get his long bombs off. Hasegawa was doing a good job through the first three rounds and change of denying him that space, getting inside and bothering him with the short right jabs and left crosses. Ordinarily Jhonny's weapon on the inside is the left hook but Hasegawa's movement and southpaw stance make that a less effective choice. Gonzalez really wanted to land that right, and just didn't have a clear runway for it in the early going.

Gonzalez finally stopped trying to line it up straight from the outside, and threw a perfectly timed right haymaker as Hasegawa was ducking off to one side with his hands down.

Brilliant adjustment by JG, really. Not to mention yet another awesome display of his power. His KO of Asiku was something to behold as well.

Anyone who doubts that Gonzalez can put away any featherweight alive has another thing coming (assuming he doesn't get KTFO himself first...and actually gets a chance to land big).

 

Yeah he opens himself up at times. He looks to get his shots off before you do and that's always the risk you take and when you get hit....against decent/good punchers you in danger of getting ko'd.
