It could be a negotiating tactic to prompt Sky to make up some of the shortfall from PPV.

    Yes. Bombed hard.

The problem is that people have got this idea into their head that a ppv fight is about the quality of a fight. Its not. Its about the marketablity of a fight. I hated Haye-Harrison but it was a ppv fight as was Haye-Valeuv.

Khan's been having more credible fights than Haye but he's not marketable enough and neither are his opponents. I mean imagine Haye fighting an Argentinian heavyweight - we'd be getting daft Maradona and Falklands references and a real jingoistic push for Haye to knock the Argy out. Khan just doesn't seem to be able to connect with the fanbase in that intense, visceral way that Haye and before him Hatton could.

The other problem though is Sky needs to address its ppv model. They need to force everyone to work together to deliver good undercards. Arum was making this point this week - the benefit of strong undercards is that its insurance in case your main event is wank. Everyone knew that Haye-Harrison was a terrible fight but in a moment of madness they decided to do nothing to build the undercard up.

But I think there's much more to this story than meets the eye. Golden Boy did not want Khan's next fight in the UK and Sky didn't want it on PPV. Both could have step in to help Khan when it was clear they were struggling but instead they gave TK enough to rope to hang themselves with.

Remember as well guys that Khan's contract with Golden Boy is up soon.

I get what you're saying, but it's more to do with one being a heavyweight and the other a light welter. If Haye was fighting at a lower weight he'd have the same problem. In fact he did when he was a cruiser, it was Khan who was more 'marketable' then. People just love those big boys, that's boxing for them.

Amir Khan is no Ricky Hatton and his team should stop thinking he is. Hatton built his fanbase up over 10years before he went over to America. Khan went over to America way to early without building up a fanbase among the casual boxing fans. Im still not convinced casual boxing fans like him. He has rebuilt his career after the Prescott debacle but he lost alot of credibility. Hatton and Haye sold paperviews because the casual new about their opponents (Mayweather, Pacman and Harrison. Ask the majoirty of casuals if they have heard of Maidana or McCloskey and many wont have.

Maidana is very popular in the UK now. A rematch would sell well IMHO.

Valuev is 8ft 5. Its far easier to sell a freak show. Haye was on with paul O'Grady selling it to the housewives.

Warren must laughing his ass off, After McCloskey Khan should ONLY fight in the USA and let real promoters like GBP handle the cards and TV deals with HBO and Sky/ITV in UK.

In UK if your not under Warren who has the most of the young talent here and the match making wisdom, your stuffed, Hatton Promotions have just kicked off and need time to grow.
