Has any champion had as many excuses in defeat as Evander Holyfield?

I was reading Peter Heller's In This Corner and it's like, littered with excuses from every fighter. Even the best of the best, pound for pound greats.

Both Klits combined don't even have as many defeats as Evander has different excuses for different defeats. :good

Fighters rarely own up and say "he won it fair and square". Who cares about their excuses?

 

When he failed to knock out Everett Martin "I needed the rounds."

Jimmy Young -the heat (i guess young had an air conditioner in his corner).

Also, he said that professional rope doctors made Ali's rope-a-dope possible, and I have heard the theory that his trainer dehydrated him.

Love Foreman though. Never going tobe another like him.

 

Can't believe no one had called out Gerry Cooney here:

Also the drugs and alcohol excuse, whcih, while true, is not a legitimate excuse.

 

I do give Foreman credit for not bitching about the decision in the Briggs fight. He was fully justified if he had, IMO. I had it 116-112 for George.

 

With Duran it´s more the fans than him. And that he didn´t train properly quite often isn´t an excuse but a fact. It´s his own fault though and thus not very useful as an excuse anyway IMO.

 

Not Lew Jenkins so, if I remember right. God, I have to read that one again.
