He wasn't matched too carefully. He is 22 years old. The jump was too big, that's all. GYM promotions do that often. Their guy faces top 70 and top 50 fighters and then a top 10. Remember Pascal against Froch? Same thing. Lemieux will rebound.

It's a good lesson for him. He spent the week talking about how he would beat Martinez and about Bute's flaws. Overconfidence.

In the first round I thought Rubio was winning the round on activity alone. About half way through the round young David exploded all over Rubio, and then exploded again a bit later. Rubio blocked most of the punches, caught a few flush, and never looked hurt or uncomfortable. I ended up giving the round to Lemieux.

Second round a lot like the first.

I gave the 3rd round to Rubio for a variety of reasons. At one point Rubio caught DL with a flush right hand on the chin that buckled DL's knees. It was clear to me that Rubio was able to hurt David more than David was able to hurt him back.

From the 3rd round on Rubio was able to land the right hand almost at will, but he did not really throw it a lot until the 6th.

When Rubio came out for the 7th he had a wicked little smirk on his face, and insisted on touching gloves. Rubio seemed to know in his own heart that the fight was over.

It was actually fairly clear how the fight was going to go as early as the 3rd round.
