I just got on here and saw like 5 threads saying hype job exposed hype job exposed. I'll agree that he had a lot of hype coming into this bout but I dont think he is just hype. I think he can be the real deal he may just have fought the wrong guy last night. Most importantly last night was a significant learning experience for him in several ways. First off he was pitching a shut out through five rounds. He was able to get inside on the taller man and land to the head and the body. I also liked his patience, he had Rubio hurt with a barrage in the first, saw he wasnt getting him out of there and didnt punch himself out. He has good punch form, doesnt waste his shots and even his jab is very hard. Another positive is the fact that his corner was smart. They threw in the towel and didnt let the kid take an embarrassing KO. Sure the upset loss is already bad but Lemieux was sparred from looking up at the lights or just taking more punishment. At that point it was apparently clear he wasnt going to win. Another positive is that he has lost his 0. If he has the mentality of a champion this will make him hungry. I mean sometimes losing the 0 is good, you now learn to lose and now fight to win instead of not to lose. Lemiuex is young talented and popular all he needs is to get his confidence win a few more fights and he is back in the picture 160 is wide open The Negatives- I think after round 1 you could have predicted the end. In the opening minute or minute and a half Rubio was on the outside blocking these lunging shots. He was landing this weak jab but it was scoring I had that round for Rubio til that big onslaught. However after the big attack Rubio was still standing. I knew then that fight may play out the way it did. I said Rubio can take, he can stay on the outside. Rubio wasnt an exceptional athlete or hard puncher but he was a good boxer balanced good form nothing leaps out at you but he didnt seem to have any major deficiencies. I thought it was possible to keep Lemieux at the end of the jab and I thought if Rubio had anything of a right hand this can be over Well Rubio got out of 1 then 2 was tough but he did it. After 4 Lemiuex didnt seem as dangerous but he won the next round. Now I pointed out in other threads that Lemieux takes unnecessary punches at times. Watch the Delray Reins fight and look at the uppercut he gets hit with. Well the jab connected on him and the right hand was knocking his head back. Also Lemiuex could not knock him out. Lemiuex could hurt him no doubt but could not KO him. He also looks to struggle vs a guy like Rubio taller and longer who likes to be on the outside. Thats a problem because the following fit that description- Sturm, Pirog, and Sylvester Hes not ready for those guys yet but with some fine tuning and studying the film its possible. I'm not ready to write Lemiuex off as a hype job. Young fighters lose all the time and go on to big things later. Lemiuex has time on his side he is young, has a smart team around him and is popular. Hopefully he doesnt get to down on himself for this loss.
On here, if a Middleweight wins a few fights he gets thrown into fantasy fights with Hagler or Monzon and whomever the champion at the time is, is accussed of ducking him. If any fighter loses, he was a hype-job who was exposed. If he gets stopped then he has a glass jaw. That's just the way it is here unfortunately. Lemieux is young, has muderous power and some decent skills. He'll build his way back up and get another shot - that's when we'll find out if he has it in him to improve, or if he's already reached his ceiling.
First time the guy fights somebody who doesnt get knocked out by a jab and is known outside of his own postcode . For me it was a step up way too soon, I know in hindsight , but this guy fought Pavlik only 2 fights ago. Also have you actually seen the fighters Lemiuex has on his record , fighters with winning records , but against losing record fighters . Very deceptive.
6 fights ago, this was a right step up, if he had won then he would have probably got a shot at martinez. This is a big step back for the guy but he isnt done or anything, you can rebound from these type of losses. Lemieux still has the talent a loss wont change it
It's ESB tradition to bash people after they lose. Lemiuex will be back, and given how he struggled with Rubio in the mid rounds, it's best he takes a set back like this because Martinez, Pirog, GGG would've hurt him much worse. David would've been fine but he lacked the ability last night to adapt and change his approach. That comes from only fighting 1st round KO opposition. Instead Purnell Gates a Matt Vanda would've put him in with a guy who forces him to do more than just blast. Also I disagree with the folks who are saying David has a shaky chin. His inexperience left him reaching with his punches and open to shots. It was the shot behind the ear that ultimately did him in, though he looked destined to lose regardless by that point. Also this could've been the first time this kid has ever been hurt. Russ Amber did the best thing, stop it before David really got damaged like Vargas did and also take some of the blame for the loss on himself which could help David's confidence when he comes back. As for Rubio, it'll be interesting whether Arum keeps it in house and lets Rubio fight Chavez (if Jr can decision Zbik). I don't like Rubio's chances against Martinez, but he takes Jr to school.
Well im not one to call someone a hypejob right away but lets face it. The kid has no chin and im not saying that just because he got KOd. 1st round the first punch Rubio landed was a left hook and Lemiuex seemed bothered by it. That was definitely worrying being that Rubio does not have big power and the punch he threw he was at the same time very aware he had to cover up so he didnt throw it with full power behind it. 3rd round a straight right stumbled him. 6th and 7th round he was basically getting hit by everything and anything Rubio threw. When it landed it would stun him. Rubio does not hurt elite MWs. The kid has world class power and his speed is pretty good. Things he is missing that will keep him from the top. 1. Chin 2. Punch variety. I know Rubio was covering up but you dont punch at the gloves and arms all the time. 3. Defense 4. Stamina possibly?? 3 of those 4 can be improved. Chin not so much. You can do neck excercises but still its not exactly the chin. Had we had a really heavy hitter in there with Lemieux we could say well he had big power. But it was not a heavy hitter it was a guy who had only decent power at 154 in the prime of his career. He is now past it and at a weight where he really doesnt belong. He should have never KOd Lemieux. Also anyone else think the trainer basically tried to salvage Lemieux career with that stoppage. Its one thing to blame the trainer for an early stoppage and another to be stopped cold. On a side note i thought the stoppage was a bit premature. He could have very well seen the final round and with big power like his he is always game.
Losing to Rubio is not good no matter how you cut it. Bottom line arguably the worst Pavlik possible, ****ed Rubio up, not saying the kid is done, just saying this loss was pitiful.
His coach have done the right thing! Lemieux had a orbitral fracture , you can see the swelling appears really fast!
Yea the right cheek bone was pretty swollen. I was wondering about that. I guess its too much to ask a Canadian to do what a Mexican would do. Margarito had a broken orbital bone in the 4th round of the Pac fight. He went on to finish the full 12 without taking a step back.
David would have died in the ring! His coach didn't want this to happens! why waste a 22 years old promising fighter!
it was a smart move on their part plus it was damage control cant have that if they let it go and he counted the lights on the Belle Center ceiling
what Lemieux backlash? according to a certain Albuquerque weatherman...only "certain" type of fighters get backlashed after a loss while other fighters get positive support.
Rubio was a pefect fight for him. He is a tough guy who will always lose to the top talent. Lemiuex just doesnt happen to be that top talent. He is too flawed. Canelo TKO 3 Lemieux!!! Viva Mexico!!!
