I don't think you realize how things work for a Thai fighter at flyweight...The options aren't the same as they are for an American light welterweight or a British Super Middleweight. This is is a very different ballgame. This is how it is.

I'v talked to Daisuke Naito on this issue. Things are WAY leaner for guys like that, and there its in their culture to fight rather than spar. If you have 2 months to train, might as well get a fight in there and stay sharp. To those in Asia, thats actually a good thing.

Yeah, this is just an entirely different world as far as what's acceptable. Pong is in Rome, doing as the Romans do, so to speak. I take nothing away from him. He makes his living, defends his belt. He's not getting megastar paydays once or twice a year like most of these other p4p guys.

Also i think he wants to reach 100 wins before retirement. Not sure about that, just a theory.

From a boxing critics perspective, you are correct.

However, top muay thai boxers earn between 200-300,000 baht per fight. Thats only about 4-6,000 uk pounds. I can't imagine his fight purse will be a lot more domestically. I don't blame him for taking easy fights for a little earner.

I think you need to consider that people are fighting for a living and trying to secure enough money when they are young enough to make it.

Agree with this. He does things differently. Example, he fought on January 6, then fought again on January 28. It's just a different situation.

But I also agree with the criticism. I can only count three respectable opponents in his resume: Koki Kameda, Naito (who he fought 4 times), and Hussein Hussein.

I also hear he gets pretty good crowds in Thailand, and people over there dont really care who he fights, they just wanna see him fight.

Top Thai fighters get paid very well domestically to fight bums. He's just setting himself up for retirement.

Love Pongskalek ... he will not reach his potential like many other Thai fighters due to the way boxing is practiced in the country...Veraphol Sahaprom was a great fighter also who seemed to get all of the best out of his boxing game.. Love thai fighters ..their approach to developing fighters seems flawed at best but it probably is a result of their economy.. I know bargirls in thailand who can make more money than teachers .. hotel owners and other mid level professions if they play their cards right... the Thai way of doing things is so different than the Western way.... so to hold their fighters to the same expectations is asking for a cultural change that is not going to happen...

Cuz nobody cares about the lower weight class. Ivan Calderon was undefeated for a while and nobody cares.

the answer is because no one in the world outside thailand or true boxing fans know who he is,hes in a lower weight class and he has alot of fights

therefore according to the ring, that means he must be unbelieveable

    Who gives a ****.

He still fights 1 or 2 legit title fights a year.. older fighters did this kind of thing all the time.. think of it as sanctioned sparring..

If these were title fights, then yeah.. I have a problem.. they aren't.

You guys love to get upset over nothing.. and honestly.. I wish more guys over here took tune-ups in between big fights more often.. keeps them fresher.
