hopkins was 43. he wasn't and currently isn't a shot fighter but again, he was 43. he had also lost twice to jermain taylor 3 yrs earlier. calzaghe did not look close to great vs hopkins. horrible fight for both guys. i was unfortunately there.

Based on what? Martinez gets tagged more coming, has a much lower punch out put and many felt he was tiring in his fight with Dzinziruk. When have you ever seen Calzaghe tire during a fight? Please give me one example?

Wait a minute. Obviously Martinez is nothing like Joe.

But people think Martinez is better than Joe.....WTF!?

Calzaghe would have stopped Pavlik easily, he would have stopped Paul just easily.

Martinez's two big wins at 160lb are against Pavlik and Williams.

    Give me a ****ing break!

Most Hopkins fans blame the Taylor losses on him being weight drained. Hopkins is great against south paws as well, that's why he called out Bute. Calzaghe could only beat Hopkins when he had the chance. Hopkins was offered the fight 5 years earlier, excepted terms and then asked for twice the money the next day despite the fact he was offered a great purse.

weight wasn't an issue for hopkins as much as being 40 yrs old in those fights. i always see that hopkins turned down money to fight calzaghe but could someone post a link for me to prove it. not saying it's not true but i've only seen it on these boards. just like when people say that calzaghe beat chris byrd as an amateur. turns out they never fought.

Google it mate, shouldn't be too hard to find.
Calzaghe says in his auto biography that he beat Byrd when they fought as amatures. I don't see why he'd lie and Byrd did fight at his weight until turning pro. Who said otherwise?
I honstly think that version of Hopkins is as good as any. He looked great in those fights and I can't think of any at middle in which he fought better.
I've made some great points lately as to whyCalzaghe is at least in the same bracket of rankings as Hopkins ATG but people on here just refuse to except it. Calzaghe is clearly bigger, stronger, faster and a better boxer than Martinez with more gas.

Ha. Look at Martinez last 5 fights as compared to Joe's last 20. Poor man's what?

Martinez doesn't get tagged more than Calzaghe did. :deal

Neither of them were Pernell Whitaker, but Calzaghe's head movement was able poor, his dome was always there to be hit, and he was always a sucker for a straight right hand. Calzaghe got hit more by Kessler than Martinez got hit by Dzinziruk, and Dzinziruk is a craftier technician than Kessler was, who was always robotic.

It's as if you haven't actually seen Calzaghe fight much.

Yeah, stupid poll. They are nothing alike. It's like asking is Wladimir Klitschko a poor man's Joe Frazier?
