They were both hurt. we werent able to tell how hurt Kirkland was after the 3rd KD because Cortez was humping all over him but it clearly looked like Kirkland still had his bearings.

I was watching a blurry stream, so I can only judge by body language, and he looked done. If he showed something more in his face I couldn't see it.

knocked him down 3 times, ishida would of knocked him again lol kirkland never had any defense or a decent chin. ishida took his best shots and it did nothing. cortez was right on the balls

Golden Boy strikes again...Kirkland was dry coming into the fight and he obviously wasn't prepared to fight a 6'1" fighter who has better technical skills...I don't know why they ever tried to throw him into the middleweights. He's too small to compete in this division. He belongs at 154lbs. I hope he can recover from this. James just isn't good enough to fight at 160lbs.

BTW, to the TS...Joe Cortez did a great job stopping the fight and saving Kirkland's career...he was beaten...no point in ruining a career from one off night.

Hopefully Kirkland has the character to come back from this...I'm not so sure.

Agree with thread starter, there was no 3 punch KD rule in effect, Kirkland was clearly talking to Cortez when he was trying to get back up and Cortez was jumping up and down on him, terrible stoppage. Ishida did what he had to do but the fight shouldn't have been stopped there.

Continue to do what? get horrifically exposed?

I actually like Kirkland, but he was no more good after the 1st KD.

Yes continue to be exposed if that was in the cards, it is Kirkland's corner that looks out for his career not the ref.

I Hate Cortez, but it IS his job to look out for the fighter if he feels the man is in danger.

Considering Kirkland is with GBP, and Cortez is now their house ref, I am sure he was looking for any reason to let it continue. But damn, kirkland looked like his legs were gone, and he was getting pummeled. He was going to go down again for sure. :deal

"The Main Attraction" Joe "Limelight" Cortez does need to retire. I can't stand him. However, there was nothing wrong with the stoppage of Kirkland.

I can just imagine if Cortez stopped JMM/Pac I in the first round all these cats would say, "good stoppage, Cortez just saved JMM a lot of damage if Pac didnt finish him off in the 1st he would of surely finished him off in the 2nd"
