did henry cooper really have Muhammad Ali out

Wasn't the gloves delay a complete myth?

 

I am Brit, and NO, the BBC a few years back showed, it was rubbish.

Ali (then under the name Clay), had an extra 10 seconds tops to get over the punch.

It was noted Ali's glove was ripped, but it was not replaced, but patched up, and the round started about 10 seconds later than it should of.

The (as) live radio feed proves this...

The myth was created from an Angelo Dundee book years later. He created the myth to flog the book, and Sir 'enry was hardly going to argue now, was he?

 

Just watched it again and that was a sweet punch.

His legs looked a bit shaky, if it happened mid round who knows what would have happened?

What actually happened, was due to a bit of disrespect by the young Ali (Clay), who wanted to get his prediction spot on.

Cooper was not in Ali's league, but deserved more respect than that. And Sir 'enry's Left Hook taught Ali a valuable lesson.

 

Where did i say the Cooper was in Ali's league? He caught him with a beautiful punch and i was just speculating what would have happened if it were not at the end of the round.

Cooper was a pretty good fighter from what i have seen of him, which is pretty limited to be honest but none the less.

 

I think you are ,quite possibily deliberately misunderstanding a previous thread.
The previous thread hypothetically asked what woul have happened on the landscape of boxing if Cooper had beaten Ali that day.
Some posters refused to even hypothetically address the question saying was it was not a possibility.
The only argument against this was if [hypothetically again] Cooper had caught Ali 30 seconds earlier and the referee [hypothetically again] started a count and made the same rash over reactive decision as the ref from Tyson Ruddock 1 or Lewis McCall 1 , then it is well with the realms of possibiity that Ali could have lost that day........

I phoned the BBB of C about the smelling salts ,asking them when they were made illegal ,in the UK ? The guy couldn't tell me.

 

He wasn't. He got right up and walked a straight line to his corner, no weaving and no knock-knee stuff.

He was stunned, sure. But not so badly hurt that he wouldn't have been able to keep dueling with Cooper had the bell not sounded.

Ali beat Foreman, Liston, Patterson, Norton and Frazier.

Believe me he's not going to lose to Henry Cooper.

He has too much heart (and arrogance in his abilities - which can be a good thing) and wouldn't allow himself to be TKOed.

 

He got up quite fast, and went to his corner without any assistance.

The smelling salts werent kosher, but I question whether they were truly needed. I think its even more likely Dundee panicked.

Ali got cracked, but I think the KD is WAY closer to a flash knockdown than a serious one.

 

he was in a bad way, they sponged him down wildly and used all they could to wake him up. his eyes were all over the place but ali was a special fighter, he could have found a way to survive even if it had not hapened so close to the bell.

frazier put ellis down close to a bell and angie could not get him ready. ali was special.
