Yeah, 12 rounds - which indicates today´s rules - means Wlad wins. He probably isn´t knocking him out though. And he will be in for some surprises in the clinches. His normal jab and clinch routine won´t be enough. Make it a 20 rounder under the rules of the 1900s and Johnson takes Wlad out late.
I think their styles would negate an exciting fight, both guys like to counter and feed off the opponents leads. Jack might find himself at more of a disadvantage then Wlad, handicapped by reach .Johnson handled tall guys effectively but a tall guy that sat back and jabbed , not taking any chances, would be difficult to score points from imo. Also, Jack's most potent punch the uppercut would probably be ineffective against such a tall guy unless thrown to the stomach, and chest area. I'd like others opinions here, but I visualize a stinkeroo ,not unusual where both fighters are concerned. N B I wonder how long it will be before the names O Brien, Choynski ,and Ketchel are introduced to this thread ?:think
Over 12? Wlad probably doesnt lose a single frame. I really don't think the 12 round distance favors Johnson in really any head to head matchup against a prime atg. The 15 round limit serves him a little better, but not much. Watching all the tapes on him I have, he seems a master at the slow break down. Scores points here and there, smothers, controls, and chips away, and then does most of his greatest stuff alittle later. Wlad would be stronger in the clinches, and has better weapons when he's fresh to moderate. Jack would outlast him for sure, and would probably get rid of him soon after, but I don't think 12 rounds is enough time for the Steward trained Wlad to hit the wall.
In my opinion this would be similar to Wlad-Chambers stylistically, but Johnson would make it more competitive throughout & last the distance.
The "Steward trained Vlad"? God people make such ridiculous over the top-ness about manny steward - Lewis was at his peak before manny ever got hold of him and same with vlad he had the same tools before manny got him pre or post manny Vlad is given problems simply by anyone who fights him properly - virtually everyone I've seen against him doesn't have the slightest idea how to fight - Vlad would be made to look a bit amateurish and I bit shocked by Johnson - Johnson's speed and genius ability would catch Vlad out again and again - Vlad would start to get disorganised as soon as he started getting stung a bit - he is not a natural fighter and like against most of the top 10 atgs this would be shown up - Johnson by decision or stoppage or KO - whichever Johnson decides
What Im saying is, he shows in shape to go 12 with Steward. His stamina was super questionable before that. Steward didn't add a ton of tools, but he indisputably added economy. Wlad UD, on virtue of being stronger, longer, harder hitting, faster, and in an uncomfy distance for Johnson. I disagree with you.
I agree with this. Johnson over limits like 20 rounds is a monster. He did subtle things over a fight and absolutely broke you late. He'd need the time against Wlad, but I think if he had it, he'd do it. 12 rounds favors Wlad. Your making Johnson fight a Wlad-style fight in Wlad-era rules. He wasnt successful in that ruleset, he fought most of his career in something different.
Watch Wlad-Brewster I, WK was in great shape, experienced & with Steward, but the pressure stopped him from dictating the pace with his "jab & grab" routine, forced him to operate at a pace he is very uncomfortable with, & caused him to gas after the first 4 rounds. Although i know Johnson isn't a pressure fighter, i'm just stating that Wlad doesn't actually have good stamina when not in total control.
