It's been a success of propaganda. Best against the best? Like whom? Allan Green against Ward? or against Glen Johnson? Past-shot Jermain Taylor? The middleweight turtle Arthur Abraham? Andre of "... the worst fight I've ever seen." fame Dirrell? http://boxrec.com/media/index.php?title=Fight:1200020 Puh-lease! Take off the blinders and look for yourself. Pretend the tournament didn't exist. Arthur Abraham moves up from Middleweight. Beats up on the corpse of a fellow middleweight. Gets battered by the biggest coward in the sport and DQs himself out of shame. Receives a boxing lesson from someone considered more a brawler than a technician. Would he still be a credible opponent for the "number one guy in the division", if they weren't preordained to fight, as per tournament's arrangement? What exactly makes him a worthier opponent for Ward than Magee for Bute?
Showtime actually start talking about an other S6 for the Super Middleweight class after this one, so i guess they think it was a success!
It's had its share of problems but I'd still say it's been a success. We've had the best guys fighting each other consistently and that's what boxing has been missing.
To me it has... its been a blessing to boxing, imo. And I thank Showtime for coming up and having the balls to do it. Maybe a super six will be too long for future stints.... but their bantam tourny might be the right way to do it, and I hope they continue with that format every so often.
What makes these guys the best guys? The fact that they're in this tournament? Can't you spot the circular reasoning?
Its better then nothing. Its been good for the sport and the fighters have gained a lot of popularity with the division and also some good match ups.
Magee is as good as Abraham. Andrade, while limited technically, has other intangibles. He only lost to Kessler and Bute and won against Stieglitz and Tsypko. Even Miranda is better than Allan Green. And so forth. I'm not saying these guys are necessarily better than those in the tournament, but they're on the same level. Ergo, you can't call those in the tournament as the best.
"Has Super 6 Been A Sucsess?" - no; but is was a sucCess, gave us great fights; and Showtime will achive their goal as finding out who is thje best at 168 after the winner of the tournament will meet the winner of Bute-Kessler
Magee is as good as Abraham? No he's not. He's really, really not. Andrade is a walking punching bag at the top level. Was his shut-out loss to Kessler enough to convince you he's as good as Ward or Froch? Allan Green was a replacement, admittedly not a very good one. What would your ideal Super 6 look like? Obviously the true greats like Magee and Andrade but who else?
You dismiss Andrade because of his shutout loss to Kessler. Why don't you dismiss Abraham because of his shutout loss to Froch? Say it: Arthur Abraham is a walking punching bag at the top level of SMW!
Abraham has been proven not to be one of the best at 168 but he's sure as **** better than Magee. Andrade has never shown me anything to convince he's a top fighter. So, again, what would your Super 6 have looked like?
Magee did more against Froch than Arthur Abraham did. You can choose to believe that since the Magee fight, Froch has improved to the level of an invincible dragon-slayer, or that Arthur Abraham is ****-poor and made his carreer feasting on smaller, weaker fighters with less than average skills at middleweight. The fact that Froch was getting outboxed in all his previous fights (Taylor, Dirrell, Kessler) lends credence to the latter hypothesis.
So because Magee looked semi-competative before being stooped by a broken-handed Froch means he's better than Abraham? We should just ignore all of Abrahams other fights and judge them solely on how they performed against Froch? As for Froch getting out-boxed in all his previous fights? He ko'd Taylor, decisioned Dirrell and was very competative with Kessler in a fight that could have gone either way. I'll try this for a third time - if the Super 6 didn't showcase the best fighters at 168, then what 6 guys should have been involved?
