Anyone impressed by Oscar in whitaker fight?

Let's just say, for the record, both of these guys are huge Jimmy Young fans. So, you know...

Yeah, this is the problem rating older fighters or past it fighters in their later performances and the performances of those fighting them. Many of these guys have stages where they're certainly not in their prime but they're not shot, they just have a little stage of faded, back and forth where they perform unevenly, alternating between looking done and looking fairly sharp. They give you a little hope with one performance, then they take it away with the next, etc. Looking bad today doesn't mean you look bad tomorrow. That was a very good Whitaker. Which is why I have to give Oscar credit, personally. No, he didn't beat a prime Whitaker and he had moments of looking mediocre, but the Whitaker he did beat, however narrowly it may have been, was a damn fine fighter for anyone to beat.

Agreed. Rivera gave Whitaker a hard time in an underrated, good fight but Whitaker clearly won the rematch in a very, unenthusiastic fight. Mcgirt gave a good effort in the first fight but clearly lost. The rematch was dominated by Whitaker.

op Another tommy/Boxed Ears war. There's never a moment of peace and agreement amongst you two lol.

 

I actually thought Oscar looked pretty good, and in that sense agree with the threadstarter. People tend to forget that Oscar's defense in this fight was pretty damn sharp. Probably the best upper-body movement I've seen from the stiff.

 

I had Oscar winning barely. That certainly was a learning experience for Dlh. He looked confused most of the fight but showed his great natural athleticism and barely pulled out the win. Whitaker was sliding big time but the fight had to be made. Prime Pea would have done a number on that version of Oscar.

 

Only problem is by that point there was really not much snap left on Pea's punches. He could still make you miss but not make you pay as much as he could in his prime. Oscar really should've done slightly better with that version of Whitaker.

 

Any one who thinks Oscar beat Whitaker don't know **** about boxing.
